NEW YEARS DECK L Q0 04 Firing of rockets shrill screams of siren Shaft beams of searchlights rent the still scene Great shouts of rubilation raucous laughter and guffawg All who are watching are aware of the cause Within half an hour all is quiet and serene The sky s velvet mantle is spread oer the scene Moored to a bouy twenty one by number Most of the ship is wrapped in slumber Fifteen fathoms of chain are payed out to por n are shackled to the bouy to povide us support e sky is magnificent so clear and so bright A myriad of stars wink down through the nigt upply ships power as is her design No 4 boiler is on the main line To keep anchor light burning and the ship aglow 2 and 4 generators are placed in tow To keep us intact should danger beset All through the ship condition YOKE is set Our ships mates are around us the TOLEDO and SAIPAN Rear Admiral OLSEN is SOPA of the clan His flagship is the PRAIRIE a mother tender Whose primary task is a destroyer mender But with enviable pride deserving and true The WASP without doubt is the Queen to view Her crew is lusty brave and bold And their spirit is infused with a faith of old Away from homes their loved ones dear A mission of integrity has brought them here ln support of our beliefs as an honorable Nation Our navy is patrolling on the Korean station Many nations have sons who all gather here With sameness of purpose-To subdue fear To restore to the world a greater love for man And insure a peace before God is our plan.
