THE CRIMSON AND GRAY BALL On January Bl, l955, for the first time in many years, a dance was given to benefit the Annual fund. ln accordance, it was titled the nCrimson and Gray Balln. Each class chose two candidates, one for King and the other for Queen. Those voted by the Freshman class were Dale Nave and Joan Sutherlandg the Sophomores backed Patsy Sutherland and Mike Gray: the Juniors chose Kay Lane and wayne Jirava and the Seniors listed Karyl Martin and Melvin wachtel as their candidates. The people arrived on the big night to find the gym decorated with red and gray streamers dangling from the bal- cony on all sides. Across the front of the stage were post- ed dummy annuals from washtucna and the surrounding towns. A large one of a crimson wildcat mounted on gray paper oc- cupied the place of honor, in the very center. Music for the royal dance was provided by the Iilting orchestrations of the Melody Men from Pasco. After inter- mission the rolling of the drums heralded the time of the crowning ceremony. All the candidates marched in and were properly arranged around the royal thrones. Studentbody President Dick Martin placed the gold latticed crown on the head of Karyl Martin and announced her Queen of the Ball. The same was awarded to King Melvin wachtel by the Editor of the Crimson and Gray Annual, Carol Lund. The dance was acclaimed a very successful first annual Crimson and Gray Ball. CRUWSUY uw fB!Y
