44 STATE PLAYOFF , CTopJ IVlr. Clarence Friedrich shows the spirit that carried the Panthers and in- volved many parents. CBottomJ Panther Co-captains, C235 Dan lVlcEnry, C343 Brent Drake, C405 Doug Cox, prepare to meet with the officials before a playoff game. Varsity Football The Panthers entered the Playoffs with a 6-2 record. ln the first game they faced Port Townsend at Olympia. The Washougal team used two quick scores, A 36 yard Friedrich to Peake pass and a 33 yard interception return by Devin Nagel, to put the Redskins away 14-6. The Panthers next traveled to Burlington to face Lynden in a quarter final tussle. The Friedrich to Peake combination again worked for 6 while Cox and Drake each scored once, in the 21-14 victory over Lynden. The Semi-final game saw the Raymond Seagulls and the Panthers meet in Centralia. Again the Washougal crowd was big as it had been throughout the playoffs. The Panthers led off the scor- ing with a 20 yard TD run. However the defense could not stop the powerful Raymond offense, as they saw them score twice. But the inspired Panthers came back in the final quarter to see Drake boot a field goal. The Panthers got the ball back with 2 minutes left and had a chance to win it. Passes to Goin and lVIcEnry brought the Panthers close but a penalty cut their Comback short. The Final score was 15- 9 . The Panthers gained third Place with the Loss.
