Hagensen was the leading as Ouga tevensoll scorer and was the Panther representative in The Panthers had a very successful season. The highlights included an upset over Scappoose and a thriller over Camas. In league play they chalked up three im- pressive wins against their only two losses. 1 0!Football the Lombardi award contest. He was also an All Trico performer and team captain, along with Tipton. Cox, the league's best deep threat, was a second team All Trico selec- tion. The Bulk of the running was carried by Seniors Jerry Green and Kent Krause. Krause earned second team Trico honors for his performance. The key to the offense were the linemen. Juniors Joe Leeds and Brent Drake anchored the Panthers in the Pit. Leeds earned an honorable mention while another lineman, IVlike Peake the lVlr. Hustle Award . Frosh This years Frosh Team didn't have the most suc- cessful year but they had a good time trying as they tied one and lost five. Cross Country Washougal's young Cross Country team had a fair season as they earned one first, three seconds, and three thirds. Wrestling 73-74 The Washougal Wrestling squad of 72-73 had a fair season that very easily could have been bet- ter. ln the Lumber Jack and Clark County tourna- ments the team took 4th in each. ln the Trico League tournament the wrestlers took lst place as a team with 5 individual lst and 6 2nd places . The Regional tournament went fairly smooth with Washougal taking lst and scoring l26l points, that was 295 ahead of nearest team and highest ever scored by a team. Stefan, Nickel and Drake took lst While Whitmire, Stencil, Sanders, and Roth took 2nd . In the State tournament the team took 7th place and scored 372 points. The Panthers were famed for a stingy defense and balanced scoring. The highlight of the regular season was a one point victory over Scappoose in the Scappoose Christmas Tournament. They breezed through league play unscathed and entered the District Tournament with a 20-0 record. The Panthers took their first two contests but lost a controversial third game to a tough Morton five. They came back to rout Yelm to finish third. In the first game at the State tourney the Panthers were their winning selves. However the Panthers couldn't get untracked in the next two contests, eliminating them from the tournament. Leading scorer was Tim Hagensen. He set school scoring marks for season and lifetime. Hagensen was on the All-District and on the All-Trico team with leading Panther rebounder Tim Wysaske and Senior Lonnie Tipton. Dan Frosh was selected for second team Trico Honors while Jeff Kinart received honorable mention. . They did win one dual meet though and there were some personal achievements too. Washougal's amazing Panthers collected their sec- ond straight Class A high school baseball cham- pionship by knocking off Carroll of Yakima 2-1 be- fore a good-sized mob at Parker field in Yakima last Friday . The tension-packed title victory boosted Washou- gaI's final season record to 22 wins, 1 loss and improved their two-year mark to 43-3 . The intensely waged championship battle capped a tough week for the panthers who had to score a pair oftriumphs in the regional playoffs on Wednesday and had only one day off before facing Carroll for all the marbles . But that didn't stop the Panthers . Right-hander Jerry Green chalked up his 11th win of the cam- paign - even though he hurled the game with only about 50 hours rest - and struck out 13 in leading the Panther charge to victory . Their first big job was to organize the homecoming dance , It was very well organized and everyone will remember the long hours spent at night to get the dance set up. Their next task was to whip the Student Council into shape so something could be done, They had many ideas about what could be done to improve the condi- tions in the school. A.S .B. funded Shakespearean actors from Ashland give excerpts from well known plays . The Dance Marathon was a smashing success raising money for the March of Dimes Student Council Students working on a smoking area proposal , While it is the A.S .B, officers who consult the administration and negotiate the final drafts of such things as smoking areas and student courts, it is the Stu- dent Council that gives its approval for such things as the above . It is usually said, if you don't want anything to be done, send it to a committee . That say- ing did not hold true in this case. Ofthe dozens of committees formed, only one was not successful. Thanks to commit- tees made up of responsible people who do not pass the buck major accomplish- ments such as the smoking area and the student court were made . Useful ex- perience was gained when A.S .B . of- ficers council members, and interested students attended numerous school board meetings to present the Student Council recommendation of the Smoking Area, ,, , i, . Youire a Good Man Charlie Brown 1973-74 Musical Presented by Washougal High School Chordaliers This year's musical was presented by the Washougal High School Chordaliers. This is the first time the Chordaliers themselves, without the choir, have put on a Broadway musical. Directing the musical was Nona Olsen, with Gretchen Rust, accompanist. You're A Good llllan Charlie Brown , is a musical entertainment based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles IVI. Schulz. The musical consisted mainly of songs and comic strip scenes. A few of the highlighted scenes were: Charlie Brown and that little red headed girl, Snoopy as a World War l flying ace and Lucy's crabbiness survey. A few of their better musical numbers were: You're A Good lVlan Charlie Brown, Glee Club Rehearsal CHome on the Rangel, Suppertime, and The Baseball Game. The show was presented to the public Nov. Sth and 9th. It was also given for Cape Horn Skye, Hathaway, Gause, the High School and Evergreen's Crestling Elementary School, making a total of eight perform- ances. The program was headed by Nlr. Don Bowers, principal of Cape Horn Sky. Student co-assistant directors were Chrissy Davis, and Marky Koester. Twenty-seven Juniors and Seniors taught at the ten various outdoor classes offered, Besides forestry, soil composition, hydrology, small animals, and the other regular stations, two new stations were added to the program this year.
