The Panthers power their way across the goal line to score against Camas. gl7l7fbdff '65 In the first game of the 1965 season, the Washougal Panthers defeated the Stevenson Bulldogs 6 to O. After scoring in the first half the Panthers were unable to score again. The next encounter for the Panthers was with Evergreen's Plainsmen. In this ball game th-evljanthers rolled up a 19 to 12 victory over the Plainsmen. A spirited White Salmon eleven gave the Panthers a real tussle in the Panthers first home ball game. A 40-yard run set up the only Panther score as the Panthers won 7 to O. On their next outing the Panthers took on the Woodland Beavers. In a well-played game the Panthers came out on top, 27 to 7. After winning four games straight, the Panthers seemed to lose something as they were defeated in their next four outings. Ridgefield handed Washougal its first defeat of the season when the Panthers met the Spudders on the Ridgefield gridiron. In this ballgame, fumbles and interceptions proved to be the downfall for the Panthers. The final score for this ball game was 19 to 13 in favor of the Spudders. Castle Rock's Rockets handed the Panthers their second defeat in a row as they scored 19 points and held the Panthers scoreless. Again the lack of ability to hang on to the ball proved to be the Panther 's downfall, An inspired Panther eleven traveled to Castle Rock with revenge in their eyes. At half time the score stood at 19 to O in favor of the Panthers. The second half was a different story, The Rockers capitalized on Panther mistakes to score 27 points and hold the Panthers scoreless. The final score was 27 to 19 in favor of the Rockets. In the last ball game of the season the Panthers took out their revenge on the Camas Papermakers, defeating them 20 to 6. In the first half the Panthers allowed the Papermakers only 4 yards from scrimmage. For the second consecutive year our name was engraved on the Camas-Washougal Merchants trophy,
