I dreamed we walked together, as of old, But, ah ! more sweetl -, for your lips were smiling. And melted into tenderness be.guiling, Thiise eyes whose glances once were proud and cold. Pensive, you listened, as my love I pleaded, And tho ' you spoke no word, the downcast eye And glowing cheek, made eloquent reply, I ' hat, not unwillingly, my tale you heeded. Trembling with rapture, since I dared believe, Your maiden heart was won, (that laughed at wooing), And that for me your dark eyes kindl - beamed, Which had been many a wretched night ' s undoing, 1 bent to kiss you, but, without reprieve, — The gra ' -lit morning told me 1 had dreamed. : I.
