AD I I TRATIO Mr. Ward W. Swain Principal What greater or better gift can we offer our country than to teach and instruct our youth? is the motto of our principal Ward W. Swain. Education is one of the greatest responsibilities and wisest investments of the citizens of our country. Since World War II and the advent of the space age, vocational training represents a vital part of our educational process. Our economy is consistently making greater demands for the technically trained in- dividual. Washington Vocational High School, because of the increasing desire of our principal, our faculty, and our student body are raising the standards of vocational training to as high a level as possible. Our principal has shown the qualities of leadership which enable him to solve the students and schools problems throughout the year. Always ready with encouragement and advice, the students at Washington Vo- cational High School are proud to salute their principal, Ward W. Swain. 8

KATHERINE E. MITCHELL Mr. Hymen Milch Office Secretary Home and School Visitor CRIST M. KING Coordinator of Work Experience Cooperative apprentice training has been popular at Washington Vocational High School throughout the years. Boys who do well in shop work and who also rate high in their academic studies are allowed, preferably in their senior year to work in industry. Shop teachers recommend boys for these jobs and they must also be in good standing with their academic teachers. The principal gives final approval after their attendance and conduct have been found to be satisfactory. The majority of the Co-op boys are employed full time by their companies, after graduating from high school. 10
