By carrying on the traditions and living up to the aspirations of its founders, Washington has accomplished many things in the year 1940-1941. A new student governing body, Student Senate, was inaugurated in October to replace the defunct Student Council. Members of the Senate were appointed by a faculty committee and its purpose is to act as an advisory board in the formulation of regulations for the control and administration of student activities. Dr. Vfilliarn Henry Stead was appointed Dean of the School of Business and Public Administration at the beginning of the academic year. Dean Stead is also chairman of the Department of Economics, succeeding the late Dean George W. Stephens. - The School of Engineering, in responseto the needs of the day, offers an Engineering Defense Training Course in night school. Prom BOO applicants, 175 rnen were selected to take the twenty-Week course designed to fit engineers for placement in the defense industries of our countryf.
