MCCOURT has been with Washington University since 1906 when, after graduating from Cornell University, he came here as lnstructor of Geology.. ln 1928 he was appointed Assistant Chancellor and has ably filled the position since that time. ' 5 l-5 WALTER E. MCCOURT flssislanl Chancellor ln 1853 Wayman Crow, for whom the new r w Physics building has been named, filed a charter for a college to he named in honor of Dr. Eliot. This charter contained the names of these two men and of fifteen other promi- nent citizens as well. These seventeen men constituted the first Board of Directors.
