Sophomores pg. 52 Sports pg. 118 3 MMOTnaN $L8 % % % New 5 Play Bunny of the year?!? 6 Stand up and hollrr! WA M9NOT N UN9 N 9 9 I am her . Yes, finally my mind begins to accept the idea. I am a senior. Four years of trials have brought me to this point. You know, one must come through much fire to become a senior. Successes, failures, fights, and first dates are all part of the four-year trip. Sometimes these experiences are frightening, but all of them help us achieve a better understanding of ourselves and new confidence in our own abilities. I sympathize with the freshmen. They can’t really see through to the end of their journey. I would ask them to take heart though, for every year goes faster and each term will (or should) broaden your outlook on life. You will have many chances to experience many things in high school. Take advantage of these opportunities. Wait, don’t turn the page. Yes, I know this sounds like the same drivel that you've heard since the sixth grade, but it’s true. High school can be good, but it can also be very, very bad. The choice is up to you. Have you ever stopped to think what a microcosm high school is? This thought hit me the other night and made me think. The fact that high school is a small world unto itself makes it one of the best places to learn about life. It is sheltered but still contains all the personality types who make the world what it is. It is the perfect place for you to assert yourself and prepare for the future. Take advantage of it, okay? 10 Always, Eric M. Hodgi Mr. Montague was born and raised in Vaiden, Mississippi. He attended Kansas University and Fresno State University. He came to Washington Union in the fall of 1949, and has taught in the area of science. Mr. Montague also farms, and plans to farm after retirement. Because of your many years of service and concern for the students of Washington Union; we the PROGRESS staff of 1976 are dedicating this yearbook to you. Thank you for your contribution to the field of education by maintaining your high standards of learning. In appreciation, The PROGRESS Staff of 1976 11 12 13 Mr. Frank S. Thompson As wc celebrate two hundred years of history in these United States, it is interesting to remember that dear old Washington Union has been in existence for eighty-four of those years. From the small beginning of two graduates in 1896 we have come to accept two hundred graduates as common-place. So, like our country, from a small beginning we have developed into a modern institution with modern facilities, up-to-date curriculum and greater opportunities with each passing year. Although we are constantly encouraged to look forward toward bigger and better things it is well, on occasion, to look back and appreciate how far we have come. Only by looking back can we gain the perspective and appreciation for where we are today. As you the graduates of '76 go through life, you will advance through wonders unheard of today. You will do so because you dare to explore the unknown and you will work toward an ever better world. But, as we have done in our Centennial Year, don’t be afraid to pause and look hack to achieve that perspective for yourself. You will gain a greater appreciation for God, your country, your fellow man and most important of all, yourself. Congratulations to the Class of 1976. May your lives be filled with happiness, peace and prosperity. Frank S. Thompson 14 Mr. R. Springer, Vicr Principal Mr. D. McDonald, Business Manager 15 16 i Mr. W. I verson. Prine. Cont. H.S. Mr. t. This is an organization that the WUHS student body should be proud of. The band worked hard to compete in six parades. The band placed second at Madera and Merced, first at Modesto. Caruthers, and Fresno. To end the marching season, the band marched away with third place at the All-Western Band Review in Long Beach which was the first time the WUHS marching band had placed in thirteen years. The concert season started by playing for three judges in Merced. The band received its 14th consecutive superior award and its third consecutive sweepstakes award. The hand will perform the annual Band Show later on in the year. The 1975-76 Progress Staff would like to congratulate this fine organization for its fine contribution to our school and community. 99 mnm Front row L. to R.: S. Card  . V Rui . I). Mivakr. C.
