'I'leasnl-er SENIQR lr was a happy but frightening day in the lives of many lfreshmen when they entered the doors of VVashington High, the first step on the long road that would lead many students through four years of' high school and many others through adventures and experiences they had never dreamed ex- isted. in the service of their country. - Not knowing the dark future that was ahead for so many but only pushing any unpleasant thoughts into the back of their minds, the lfreshman class fthe future graduates of '-lbj elected their class officers. Those elected were president, 'lim Peoples: vice-president. Charles liricksong secretary Catherine Steyer, and treasurer, Klerle Petersen. Under the excellent supervision of class sponsors. lvliss Jurgensen, lkliss Palmquist Know Mrs. Cochranl, and llr. Burnett the Freshman class finished their first year with only a few minor changes caused hy the horrible monster of war that had overrun the world. The Sobhomore Year for the class of '-l-O was not a year when they were scrubs and scared to death. but just another performance in the second ring of the circus called school. The class election was held and Nlerle Petersen was chosen president with Herbert llonabedian as vice-president: when Herbert moved to Fowler. his oflice was occupied by' Thom Thor. La Verne Seibert was elected sec- retary and the treasurer was Bette Ray. Boys and girls alike took part in school activities. Sophomore boys won second place in inter- class football and baseball and first place in basketball. 'lihe girls made a good showing in volleyball, basketball, and other inter-class sports.
