McGuire. gatlegaf Spring l950 . . . baseball fever . . . captured the heart of every boy at W.T.H.S. In order to start baseball the football field had to be turned into a baseball diamond. Much credit must be given to the bays and Mr. Kline for the work they did to get things ready. Each player acquired his own glove, shoes, and uniform . . . the school buying the field equipment . . . bats and balls. The field was conditioned . . . a variety of uniforms appeared . . . history took a new twist . . . W.T.H.S. versus Saltsburg in our first scholastic baseball game . . . the score was lop-sided in favor of the opposition . . . but W.T.H.S. had started to develop lwe hopel another varsity sport . . . our beginning was not startling-but 4 wins decked our opening season. Batting honors . . . Bill Pratt with a nice .400 . . . Bece .350 . . . the pitching honors gave Joe Whiten 2 . . . with Elwood and McGuire l each. As THE WASHTONIAN goes to press . . . basball season is about to open again and we hope W.T.H.S. will show again this season. - l950' Record - W.T.
