A wma, inn, 4 4 1 ' L' 'l'wu THIS IS OUR SCHCDOL VVith its red bricks nearly perfectly laid one upon another, With its beautiful doors beckoning for one to come in, NVith its long corridors with their narrow paths and few turns, With its class rooms, still gay with class mates who soon will be leaving because of graduation, within which our teachers have spent countless hours patiently laboring to shapen us into our pattern of life 5 With its library packed with inspirational books, magazines and periodicals, where many a pleasant hour of reading enjoyment was spentg With its auditorium from which talented people gave much to inspire our lives. Many a memory of those inspirations linger yet. With its gymnasium in which many a game was won or lost, our cheers are more than a memory. With its athletic field where many a courageous lad and lassie learned much about I what it meant to win or go down in defeat. With its beautiful Campus where God in Nature dwells among the flowers. trees and shrubs. From these halls, these classrooms, this campus, we go in silence and sorrow, lov- ing, remembering, cherishing, thanking God for our school and the privilege of cherishing in our hearts fine memories of our school days. This Heet was headed for a far distant land called The Land of Graduation, which could be reached only after a long voyage of four years over the much traveled, but to them unknown sea. There were four isles-Freshman, Sophomore, or the Land of Wise Fools, junior, and Senior, or the3Land of the Owls-to be throuoghly explored before reaching the promised land. On board the vessels which had been recruited from such minor isles as Roadside, Wayne Heights, Zullinger, Mon- terey, and other ports, each composed a fleet. There were seventy-four voyagers called Fresh- men, each Hrmly resolved to succeed or go down with the ship. X The first port reached was Freshman Isle. Upon arriving there we elected the ship's officers to help us during our stay there. They were as follows: President-Edgar Carbaugh. 1 Vice President-Barry Barlup. Secretary-Gertrude Shank. Treasurer-Lois Hess. Historian--Dorolhy Harbangh. 1 We were under the expert supervision of Mrs. Neill and Mrs. Kreps. 1 We chose as our ship's colors Old Rose and Grayg Flower-Pink Roseg and our ship's motto, Get wisdom, get understanding, forget it not. 1 We had a ship's Halloween Party on October 31, 1947. 1 During our stay here Beatrice Tully, Betty Muth, and Paul Monn joined us. We also lost a few. They were: Betty Calimer, Lindy Federonf, Junior Goetz, Betty Muth, Beatrice Tully. Dick Gardner, john Stem, Guy Eyler, Paul Monn, Bill Sanders, Ruth Swisher. W After an enjoyable year, the Freshmen started on a three month voyage for the Isle of Wise Fools or Sophomore Isle. As we neared this isle we felt our heads beginning to s1well and thought ourselves very wise indeed. Everything was now quite different from Freshman Isle. Part of our food was changed, we now had Geometry in place of Algebra, besides many other rearrangements of the menu, though most of our number relished the change exceedingly. A few were heard to lament for the more easily digested fare of Freshman Isle. ' While here we elected new ship's officers. They were as follows: President-Benjamin Moudy. Vicc President-Donald Batson. , Secretary-Gertrude Shank. Treasurer--Lois Hess. 1 Our new supervisors were Miss Eyler and Miss Witmer. 1 We had our ship's party October 22, 1948, during which we enjoyed a movie and 1delicious refreshments. 1 We picked up a few new passengers. They were: Doris Batson. Donald Batson, Juanita Greene, Marion Buhrman, Doris Lynn, Jacqueline Stewart, Edwin Newman, Marie' Shifflet, Betty Ford. 1 VVe also lost a few more. They were: Richard Bender, Martha Crilly, Ronald Robinson, Robert McCleaf, Ray Swisher, Mary Patterson, Edwin Newman, Bernice Scott, Annie Stem, Jean Gladhill, Marion Buhrman. 1 1 1 1 1 1 After an enjoyable year we set oFf for Junior Isle. It was reached and all the voyagers that landed spent a very pleasant year. Again we elected new ship's officers. They were: Prr.v1'dcnl-Donald Batson. Vin' Pn's1'dz'nl-Richard Eigenbrode. Secretary-Nancy Stunkard. Trvamrcr-Clara McCleaf. Our new supervisors were Miss Denkovich and Mr. Davison. We had our ship's party November 2, 1949. Everyone had a good time. We also held a dance called the Junior-Senior Prom, under the expert guidance of Miss Rohrbaugh and Mr. Davison. We owe thanks to Gertrude Shank for the nice decorations. Delores Snively made sure that invitations were sent and we thank Elaine Carbaugh for the tasty refreshments. The success of the prom was due to everyone. We picked up two new passengers this year. Richard Eigenbrode and Lenora Hurd. We lost: Doris Lynn, Haidiee Rowe. Janet Knott, Joanne Sease, janet Smith, Harold Whitmore, Romert Marshall, james Dick, Juanita Greene, Alvey Ford. We set out for and at long last reached Senior Isle or the End of Isles. Here we found unexpected pleasures in store for us. Again we had to elect new ship's officers. They were: Prrsidrn!-Richard Eigenbrode. Vice President-Gertrude Shank. Scrrrtary-Dolores Snively. Treasurer-Clara McCleaf. Our historian is still Dorothy Harbaugh. Our new advisers were Miss Miller and Miss Rohrbaugh. We held a food sale which turned out very successfully. We had another ship's party October 4, 1950. It was a success. Many parents were pres- ent and a good time was had by all. We were guests of the Juniors at the Junior-Senior Prom., We all had a very delightful time. Toward the end of our sojourn on the isle we produced, under the direction of Miss Miller and Miss Rohrbaugh, a play, entitled, Shirt Sleeves. During the year we picked up two new passengers. They were Eubert Burgess and Eugene VVeikert. We lost: Marie Barnhart, Donald Batson, Doris Batson, joan Cook, Phyllis Davis. Robert Fessler, Arlene Garling, Lois Kipe, Marie Shifflet. Rodger Sullivan, Betty Farrow. At the end of this year we found that Senior Isle was also the stepping-off place into the vast territory of the promised land. The stepping-off place was called Graduation and a great concourse of people met to watch us take this short journey. And now the four long years have passedg we the Freshmen of 1947-48 are now the Seniors of 1950-51. We have had many experiences during our voyage of which the enjoyments far outweighed the unpleasantness. As we, the Seniors scan the horizon from the stepping stone of Graduation, we see many conquests to be made, and we believe that in the future. as in the past, we will show ourselves ready for any test that may be put to us. v Page Thirty-one H Page Thirty-two Class Will We, the Class of 1951, enjoying fine health and good times and having excellent mental capacities, make this, our last will and testament, hoping that the manner in which we dispose of the numerous assets and talents of our class will prove satisfactory to all. j To the school-Fond memories of the many good things which we have accomplished and the ability to forget our weaknesses. Thei Alumni Basketball teams played the High School teams during the Christmas holidays. X Our annual Alumni play has been cancelled because of circumstances beyond ouri control. Work had been started and the play was scheduled to be presented in April. We look forward to next winter with hopes of again presenting a fine play. E We have a balance of 3123.94 in the treasury at present time. We hope to hold a iood sale soon to raise money to carry on some projects. I The dues of the Association are 51.00 per member, per year, to be paid on Alumni Day, at the registration desk or to the secretary or treasurer any time during the year. If each Alumnus will bear this in mind, and pay his dues promptly, we will be able to carry out more extensive plans and become a much more active organization. w This year the Association voted to send sympathy announcements, with the school seal on them to the family or next of kin of any Alumnus in case of death. The Necrology Commit- tee drew up the plan for the announcement and selected a class representative for each year to check their class roll and inform the secretary of all correct names and addresses. In 'event of death of one of their class members they will send forth the token of sympathy bealring the name of the President and Secretary of the Association. We do ask full cooperation of all members to keep us posted immediately. The Association is interested in the school program and tries to help whenever we can be of service. This year we voted to contribute money in order to start the Red Cross Training Course in the school. Mrs. Frances Sullivan .was authorized to purchase the most badly needed supplies for her work and the Alumni Association will pay for them. We are planning a full evening of entertainment for Alumni Day on June 16, 1951. Plans are being formulated to have a banquet at 6:30 P. M. followed by brief remarks and a business session. There will be dancing and cards from 9 until 12. It is our hope that many Alumnus will look forward to this event and plan now to be there for a time of fun and frolic. The annual election of officers will take place at the business meeting. Page One Hundred One Candid Shots 1. Play it pretty Baker. 18. Old flames. 2. just posing. 19. Remember Scram? 3.
