Varsity Football The Minutemen kicked off the 1975 season with a convincing 20-0 shutout over the Middle Township Panthers. Bruce Dzinski's two interceptions spearheaded a strong defensive effort. Dennis Neill and George Catanese led a fine offensive blocking effort as Dave Archambo rambled for 216 yards in a 29-8 victory over the Highland Tartans. The Minutemen made it three in a row with a 20-0 win over the Edgewood Eagles. Dennis Neill's touchdown- saving tackle in the winning moments of the game helped preserve the Minutemerfs second shutout of the season. A Lou Sabato to Mike Giordano TD pass just before halftime helped get the Minutemen untracked offensively. The Minutemen suffered the first defeat of the season at the hands of Deptford, the eventual American Divison Champions, 32-6, in a hard fought contest. Washington Township scored first but were out manned in the second half by a strong Spartan team. The Minutemen bounced back with a thrilling 28-24 win over the West Deptford Eagles. Trailing 24-21 with five minutes to play, Washington Township drove 95 yards on the passing of Lou Sabato and the receiving of Mike Giordano and Bill Gehringer. Gehringer's 24 yard TD reception provided the margin of victory. Lou Sabato read the verdict with a last minute interception. The Minutemen gave undefeated Glassboro their biggest scare of the year before dropping a 26-20 draw to the Bulldogs. Dave Archambo rushed for 137 yards to lead the Minutemen offensive effort. Lou Sabato's two sneaks for touchdowns led the Minutemen to a 13-12 squeeker over the Overbrook Rams. Dave Haine's P.A.T. kick provided the margin of victory. Merriel's Maranders recorded their third shutout of the season against Triton, limiting the Mustangs to four first downs and one pass completion in their finest effort of the year. A Lou Sabato to Mike Giordano touchdown pass with one second left in the first half accounted for the only score in a 7-0 Minutemen victory. The Eastern Vikings spoiled Homecoming Day for the Minutemen with a 16-8 victory, a Thanksgiving Day in a hard-fought defensive battle. The Minutemen ended the season with a 6-3 record, finishing second in the Olympic Conference American Division with a 4-1 record. With seven starters returning defensively, a 6-2 Junior Varsity record, and a 4-4 Freshman record, the Minutemen have the potential for another fierce season in 1976.
