We, the Class of l969, dedicate our yearbook to me individuals who have had a significant influence in our lives at Washington Township High School. Each time we lost an advisor we have had the good fortune to secure the leadership of another outstanding individual to guide us along the way. Each of them has made a personal contribution to our class and through their example, we have learned a truer meaning of devotion, inspiration, integrity, leadership and love. Mrs. Nelson, Mr. Lovell, and Mr. Morley, we express our gratitude and sincere thanks. Inspiration . Mr. Lovell will best be remembered for the inspiration he continu- ally provided and for the many hours of guidance and assistance he gave us in our class activities. How can we ever forget the time and energy he devoted to the construction of our homecoming floats each year! Although Mr. Lovell officially became our advisor in our sophomore year, he has been a real friend to all of us since those first days in ninth grade science class. We will remember him as the person who always provided the shot in the arm when we needed it most. Mr. Kenneth Lovell December 1966 through June 1968 4 Although by the time we reached our senior year we were firmly convinced there had never been another class like the Class of 1969, we soon found without the guidance of our senior advisor, Mrs. Nelson, the goals we had been working toward these past four years could not have been achieved so readily. Her ability to plan activities and anticipate and eliminate obstacles in advance has made our senior year a more effective and pleasant one for everyone. Her devotion and sincere interest in each of us will long be remembered. It was a sad time for the Class of 1969 when Mr. Morley left us to enter the military service. Under his leadership as our freshman year advisor, class pride and unity of purpose really began to blossom. He helped us set realistic goals and taught us the pleasure of working together as a group. He shared the joys of our first successes and helped us overcome our early disappointments. Under Mr. Morley's guidance we became proud of our identity as the 6'Class of 1969. 5 Devotion . . Mrs. Roberta Nelson September 1 968 through June 1969 Leadership . She continued to state that her aunt is always expecting them to appear through the window as if they were alive. It is without reserva- tion that I can say that this has been the best team so far in the short history of Washington Township basketball teams. They have proven themselves by having the finest record to date, while playing the toughest schedule of any previous team. They have also been the first boys' athletic team ever to win a conference and Group II South Jersey Basketball Championships. I am sure that their fine efforts were achieved by respecting one another, dedication to their basketball team, desire to be a winner, willingness to work hard, and complete unselfishness on the part of each player to work as a team. Jim Snodgrass has rewritten the records in South Jersey scoring. He is in my estimation one of the finest all around basketball players to graduate in the history of South Jersey basketball. Jim has always been an inspiration to his team and an athlete with a good attitude. I am sure this is only the beginning for Jim and that his achievements will be many. He has been a credit to himself, his family, and to Washington Township. I only hope that WTHS will continue to graduate boys of Jim's caliber. It's been a privilege to work with these boys. I O P rl nel pa I CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 1969 Your courage, leadership, achievements, and group spirit merit the highest of commendation and will long be remembered at Washington Township High School. You are fortunate as a class to have in your number many individuals with exceptional talent, superior academic ability, and great leadership potential. The impact of the events which have taken place in society during your four years of high school has changed the lives of all of us. You are part of the generation whose youthful exuberance and earnest desire to change things for the better has. . . because of the disruptive and destructive militancy of some of your contemporaries. . . been labeled by some as a generation bent on bucking the system . Society cannot quarrel with your desire to squelch hypocrisy and bigotry nor your rejection of materialistic values. . . rather, you are to be admired and commended for your pursuit of honesty in human relations and your search for values that are more enduring and rewarding. At no other time in history has the need for relevant dynamic leadership among the youth of our country been so necessary to clarify issues, balance priorities and, most of all, to keep the hope alive that despite our confusion, we can find our way through the trouble ofour day. A class as gifted with talent and leadership as yours can and should have a profound impact on orderly changes in our society. Live in faith instead offear. . . love instead of hate. . . when in life you jind you cannot accept the world as it is, do not waste your time destroying that which exists. . . rather, with conviction and conhdence expend your energies building a better world for those who follow. I wish each of you success, good health, and happiness. Charles J. Korkuch fl IP LS PRI IS SS R ,- 'ga M Mrs. Mildred Ashby Trenton State, B.S. It begins whenever we tum a page, And start, with a clean new sheet, to find Something creative to till the mind. Life may not begin when we're strong and sure, But when our souls are serene and pure, When we've mastered the art of being kind, Not just in deed, but in heart and mind. Life may not begin on the level road, When our sun is high and we have no load, Sometimes it grows through defeat and pain, If we have the courage to rise again.
