During his short time as a teacher in the high school, Mr. Greenblatt earned the respect not only of his fellow teachers, but also of the students in his classes and in this, the senior class. His courage and perseverence in the face of personal handicaps, and his ready sympathy and understanding of the problems of others have been and Will continue to be an example for us all. When a helping hand was needed, Danny was cheerfully available, When the Class of '66 found itself in need of an advisor, he was again ready and Willing to put aside his own interests and problems and to take up the projects of the class in its effort to prepare for the upcoming all-important senior year. Through his passing We have lost a fine teacher, an able leader, and a true gentleman, but We shall never lose the results of his influence. His influence will continue to be felt throughout our lives. Principal The members of our first graduating class have en- countered many problems While Working toward their graduation. Generally, they have faced these obstacles with courage and have not faltered when unusual de- mands have been placed upon them. It is our hope that their training and experience here has strengthened their character in a Way which will enable them to meet all future challenges with increased courage and enthusiasm. We Wish them more than luck. We wish them confidence and good health and a desire to con- tinually improve themselves. Robert T. Cfficers ,arg 57 E THE METAMORPHICAL EVOLUTION OF THE CLASS OF 1966 It was an early September day and the morning mist had not yet cleared over what seemed to be an omi- nous-looking brick structure. A caravan of buses ap- proaches, laden with smiling, chattering students. As the buses discharged their passengers in front of this building, the students all stared at the letters mounted in the brick: Washington Township High School. The students entered the building and stood looking down a long corridor. There was an air of crispness and newness. Suddenly, bells and chimes started ringing and, somehow, the new students were herded into homerooms. They saw their old friends and, together, they contributed to the mass confusion of the day. When the choas subsided, the first Fresh- man Class elected ofiicers: Pat Senior, president, Barbara Sparks, vice-president 5 Paulette McCrary, sec- retary, and Donna Elser, treasurer. With the encour- agement of their mentor, Mr. James Mirenda as their faculty advisor, they became brave and decided to stick around for another year. As Sophomores the class was lead again through the democratic ritual of class elections. Joyce Taylor Diane Wagner, Paulette McCrary, and Donna Elser were the victors. Throughout the year, the class tried to build up their treasury and at the same time have fun. They sponsored such events as dances, a talent show, a spaghetti dinner, and a faculty-student basket- ball game which was destined to become a tradition. In January, the class was stunned by the news that. Mr. Robert Wayne had suffered a heart attack. Fortunately, by March he had recovered and was able to continue teaching iwith his pockets filled with peppermints and life-saversb. The Sophomores were an anticipating class, for they had begun to make plans for a yearbook, class rings, and the Washington trip. By June the Sophomores decided to devote a whole week to class activities. This was appropriately named Class Week the first and only class week. It began with School Service- Day and Dress-Up day and ended with a Field Day. Some may remember Field Day by the tug-of-war between homerooms, the three- legged races, a water-gun fight, the mud puddle, or just generally having fun. It was clear to all that the Sophomore class was ready for summer vacation. In its Junior year, the class gave a great deal of consideration to future plans and problems. .At the first class meeting with Barbara Sparks presiding, aided by Tom Banks, Paulette McCrary, and Donna Elser, they began plans for the year's Prom. In the next few months a pretzel sale began and in the spring a unique fashion show, and the class play directed by Miss McRae. In September students found themselves again lost and confused by the new addition to W.T.H.S. Stu- dents were not the only ones who were confused, for many of the new faculty members could be seen roaming the halls looking for their students. Among the new faculty members was the Senior Class advisor, and Senior English teacher, Mrs. Roberta Nelson. Mr. Robert Householder, another newcomer, was appoint- ed Yearbook advisor. Seniors became aware that they were in dire need of one essential commodity-money. Tom Scott, pres- ident of the class, flanked by Tom DeGirolamo. Rosalyn Krzyk, and Donna Elser ,led the class through cup-cake sales, doughnut sales, selling refresh- ments at athletic events, dances after school, and much more. Concentration was on graduation and the Wash- ington trip. By November the detailed plans for each were nearing completion. In the meantime, many stu- dents Were busily making plans for college. Others were hunting for jobs and some were awaiting their Letters of Greetings from Uncle Sam. June brings an abrupt change to all of the Seniors for they are not Seniors anymore-they are adults. They are timid at first but very, very gradually, a feel- ing of self-assurance takes the place of that tilnidity. They have now left one school but are entering the larger, more profound school of Life which employs many teachers.
