Soon you developed a routine. Study, eat. sleep, study, eat, sleep. Actually, you found that there was more free time than you had imagined. So you spent it at football games, dances, movies “being rowdy”, dating, joining intramurals, partying, volunteering services to clubs and organizations, writing letters, and just plain relaxing. ...Now that you’re experienced, you look back on your first few months of college and smile. You smile because everything you feared would happen did happen—or because what you feared would happen did not happen. At any rate you turn this page with a smile, and a sigh of relief because the trauma of being a freshman is over. “...Now that you’re experienced...the trauma of being a freshman is over.”

The Joy of Studying (or...how to take the damn out of cram) Now that you ' ve perfected your culinary skills by careful reading of “The Joy of Cooking and whatever other skills you might have developed from perusal of “The Joy of Sex, it ' s time to become acquainted with WSU ' s blockbuster best seller. . . “The Joy of Studying. Space limitations dictate a shortening of the book ' s content into a few select excerpts. For those wishing the full benefit of the book ' s 1001 study suggestions, the handsomely bound volume is on sale at the Bookie for $9.99; or in exchange for a 1975 Cougar season football ticket. Here are just a few of the study tips offered by Joy (please refer, clockwise, to the accompanying photos). EATING IT UP: Devouring textbooks, the eater has no qualms about digging into the material, although the more difficult subjects sometimes necessitate spoon-feeding the information. If the material is hard to digest, try a little sage. SPEED FREAK: Here ' s a man that took advantage of Evelyn Wood, figuratively, of course, and now can read pages faster than George Raveling can recruit seven footers. There ' s no secret to speed reading; and, in fact, anyone of average intelligence can master the art. The trick is to skip from line to lin e. A nd eve ry thing w il 1 ma ke sen se. THE CRAM : Take the C out of “CRAM” and you ' ve got where we ' d rather be; soaking up those suds at Pullman ' s most-frequented watering hole. The secret to successful cramming, by the way, is not how or where you do it, it ' s when you do it. The professional crammer refus es to turn the first page of unread books until 3 a.m. of the test day (5 a.m. if the exam is in the afternoon). Following the cramming session the expert crammer should have available a 10-speed for use precisely seven minutes after the hour. For Wil-Ru resident crammers it ' s recommended the crammer begin the rush to class at six minutes after the hour . . . and in high gear. Group Therapy OSMOTIZING: (Just let that knowledge seep in). Here ' s a cleverly devised form of studying for those who have a penchant for learning while in a prone position. Practitioners of this study method have found it difficult to break habits developed in the second book of the Joy series (refer to first paragraph) and have decided to combine the best of both worlds. One note of caution: Don ' t try the Osmotizing method with your CHINOOK. The color rubs off and you might end up with a magenta-covered forehead. 28 Expressions
