Following a government decision in 1960 to estab- lish in West Pakistan a university embracing all academic subjects relating to agriculture, WSU was requested by the Government 0 Pakistan and the United States Agency for International Develop- ment to advise and assist in its development. WSU is one of 69 American universities presently in- volved in 117 educational contracts in 37 different countries as one phase of our international devel- opment program. It is the opinion of President C. Clement French that land-grant institutions may be excepted to par- ticipate increasingly in international affairs. This is a logical extension of their philosophy and func- tions whicn, from the beginning, have been con- cerned with community, regional and national affairs. WSU's program at the new West Pakistan Agricultural University also is in keeping with the principle that it is wise to concentrate efforts on one institution rather than spread them widely as was done under the original program with the Uni- versity of Punjab.
