LIVER WENDELL HOLMES once said, Every now and then a man's mind is stretched by a new idea and never shrinks back to its former dimensions. I would like to think that this statement is directly applicable to every student who attended the State College of Washington in the year 1945-46. You have lived through the most tragic period in modern history- The awful effects of World VJar II will be felt throughout your entire life span as the world struggles with the problems of peace and the ideals of universal freedom. If the same measure of energy and determination is applied toward winning the peace as you and your fellow students have shown toward winning the victory, we can look forward to great strides in the progress of civilization. I have a firm confidence that the students of WSC will discharge the high duties in civic, business, professional and public affairs in the Pacific Northwest and throughout the nation which will devolve upon them.
