JENNIE Doe: fOpeuiug the Art Sfmlia door and spying Ann Osborne bard at uorkj Oh, Miss Osborne- ANN: What! Oh you startled me! I'vc been painting and didn't hear you. Excuse me while I wipe the paint from my hands. JLNNIE Doe: Don't do that. just keep on working and I'll look over your shoulder. I love to watch you. Is that a girl from this school that you are doing? ANN: Yes. Girls come down in their study periods and pose for us. JINNIE Doe: The room is just full of different and pretty things! I wish I could draw, but there's never been an artist in our family. just what kind of work do you girls do? ANN: Well, Miss Doc, we have a comprehensive work in art of all kinds- excuse me while I get a tube of bluewepastels, water colors, oil, pen and ink, charcoal-heads, cart drawing, original composition, and flower arrange- ments. JLNNII-L Doe: Does that girl really have as blue eyes as you're giving her in that picture? JANE ADDINGTON . Secretary ELOISE RUSHIN . Treasurer oanne Johnson, Harriett Witham, Kay Shober, Bertie Dawes, Lois ANN: Almost. May I draw your picture sometime? -ILNNIE DOE: I'd be delighted. What do the girls hope to accomplish by the end of the year? ANN: More intelligent drawing, original composition, the different values of light and shade and color scheme. JLNNIE Doe: Goodness! Maybe I don't know much about art, but from what I've seen, I don't see how you could do much better. ANN: We still have :i long way to go. Some of us hope to be dress dc- signers, or work for the government, or be just plain artists. During the Fourth XVar Loan Drive we made posters for it, the prize being 55.00 in W'ar Stamps. JLNNIE DOE: Some of the posters I saw were really inspired bits of com- position. I certainly hate to leave the Studio, but I must be going. I'll take you up on drawing my picture as soon as possible. Until then, good luck to you and the rest of the girls. ANN: Thank you, Miss Doe, for being so interested in us. Good-bye and do hurry back. 'N

There's a job for each one and you'd be surprised how many of the girls are in- terested in work other than acting. JILNNIIL Doe: W'hat, for instance? Miss DRAPER: This year we divided the Club into three parts: Acting, Stage Management, Costuming. In that way there's a place for girls interested in any form of th-: theater. ,ILNNIE DOE: From what I can see the play is going to be .1 grand suc- cess. Now about the club itself. Can you tell me something about it? Miss IJRAPFRZ The Dramaiie Club is for girls who qualify for those dif- ferent divisions. They have to pass tests in acting, build a scale model stage, or costume a doll. Scene from Lift Up Tfaifze Egrs-Christmas Play. JINNII Dol: That sounds as if they have really accomplished something when they are made members. Now who are the oliicers?
