In addition to preparation for the precarious periods of our lives, we have acquired an appreciation of the beauty in the world around us. We leave Park, each to face his individual problems, yet with confidence that we are qualified to cope with all that confronts us. Through the pages of this book, your Kipi Staif of 1952 hopes to reflect the events which made our last year at Park such a memorable one. - ff '.1Q7k'i'4 y. Dedication... During one of the most extraordinary years Park High has ever witnessed, one man in particular has set an example of leadership. Stepping from the role of athletic director to that of administrator is no easy job, but with his friendly drawl and Hrm - yet informal manner, he has captured the hearts of all. For these, and many inexpressible attributes, we dedicate this book to John Prasch. May he enjoy many more successful years! Table of Content PERSCNALITIES Faculty . Seniors . SPORTS . . Each graduation promotes you seniors into higher positions as future citizens of Racine. It also marks the completion of your formal connection with Park High and a more independent endeavor for each individual. Whatever your future work and responsi- bility may be, your teachers will watch with pride and keen interest the progress you make. We have striven to give you a background of knowledge and under- standing which will bring you and our community much satisfaction. I hope that, as you look through these pages now and in the years ahead, the realization that you shared with us the task of building the fine reputation which Park High School enjoys, will bring to you a sense of lasting satisfaction. A. B. CLOSE When asked what he was doing, a bricklayer looked down at his mortar and bricks and explained that he was working at hard physical labor in order to earn a daily wage. His companion, who was doing similar work, had a different answer to the same question. Looking upward where the scaffolding of the new building rose skyward, this workman ex- plained that he was doing his part to help in the construction of a great and beautiful building. The story of the bricklayers is old but to me it illustrates and defines the fundamental spirit that makes Park different and better than other schools. Park High is not just another school nor just an ordi- nary building. Park High is a great and living youth- serving agency, and it is prevented from becoming ordinary by the spirit of its students and teachers. This book is a pictorial record of the school activi- ties for the past year, and illustrates the ways in which we have all been builders of Park High. A perusal of these pages will strengthen your faith in Park High and impress you with the huge role Park has played in your life. Later, while the threat of World War hung over the United States, she moved to a better position in Illinois. In 1920 a chance to come to Racine was offered Miss Wiechers, and she accepted. In Racine she began her teaching career at the old Racine High School. When the doors of Park High were first opened in 1929, Miss Wiechers could be found in room 242, which she still occupies. Starting with French and Spanish, she later added German, her favorite, to her schedule of language classes. In 1934 she was named head of the language department, a position which she has inspiringly filled ever since. In addition to these duties, she has served as advisor to many of the language clubs. For her thirty-two years of outstanding service to the community and her devotion to her students and her profession, we have set aside this page as a tribute to Miss Alma Wiechers. We are sure that in future years she will continue to find as much happiness as she has brought to her students. N 4. alex I . . After a scoreless first half, Belvidere pushed over the only T.D. early in the fourth quarter. Park drove across the goal line in the third period only to have the touchdown nulli- fied by a penalty. This was the extent of the Pan- thers scoring threats. PARK 0 BELOIT 34 Park opened its conference season on a mud- soaked field in Beloit. Due to Beloit's big line and speedy backs, the Panthers were at the mercy of the damaging Purple and White. Five Beloiters shared the scoring burden, Gupton scoring twice. The Panthers only offensive threat was Willie Tay- lor, who broke loose when he received the required blocking. Because of the effective work of the defensive unit, our boys were able to achieve a draw with the Bluebirds. Neither team discovered the spark to ignite a sustained scoring drive. The Panthers took fire and drove the length of the field, but at the goal line their offense bogged down. PARK 6 WEST 18 Again rain fell, but this didn't hamper the Panthers from scoring their first touch- down of the season on a 14 yard pass from Dorval to Cody. This score was not enough to overthrow the 18-0 lead West had built up earlier in the game. The Regents re- sorted to a ground attack, which produced scoring plays of one, 26, and 74 yards. 42 PARK 7 CENTRAL 14 Fumblitis proved costly to the Panthers, and resulted in a Central victory. Park's sixth and most costly fumble set up the winning T.D. for the Eagles late in the fourth quarter. Park's offense was highlighted by a nifty run of 28 yards by Bill Provine, to give the Panthers a 7-7 tie at the half. PARK 6 KENOSHA 27 Park's upset-minded Panthers traveled to Kenosha to tangle with the league-leading Red Devils on a rain-soaked field. Park showed its determination by holding Ke- nosha to a 6-6 tie at half-time. Nyboe's 5 yard sneak capped a short drive by the Panthers. The Red and Black scored 21 points in the final half, with a series of power drives that clearly showed champion- ship strength. ., - A , 'v , ' , . .Qi 1 I ' . Q' ' P' 'fi fo I O 3 . East's passing attack gave trouble to the Panthers from the start of the game. A sustained 78 yard drive was con- cluded by the Panthers with a 9 yard pass from Dorval to Martin. Park's main offensive threat was Frank Patriarca, who gained 105 yards by rushing. PARK O HORLICK 59 Playing its last game of the year, Park met their cross-town rival, Horlick. The Panthers could not discover a defense to combat the aerials of Rod Hermes, who completed 18 of 24 passes, and con- sequently hung a 59-O loss on the Panthers. The Panthers again showed their never say die spirit. B Squad Football Row One, Left lo Right-D. Petersen K. Griffin, C. Zimmerman, T. Petersen N. Dahl, J. Merrens. Row Two, Left to Right-D. Under Coach Krause's valuable advice some of the inexperienced runners showed rapid improvement and when combined with the nucleus of last year's squad it resulted in a well-balanced team which wore Park's colors. Park took second in both the Lake Shore and Big Eight meet, and third in the Mid West. It climaxed the season by taking second place in the State Meet. Park's first five harriers to cross the finish line were jim Paulson, Bob Urdiales, Bob Teska, Bob Wanless, and Frank Demet. They hnished in hrst, third, 16th, 19th and 57th places respectively. jim Paulson became the first Park runner ever to take individual honors in the State and Mid West meets. In addition he went through the season un- defeated to run up a string of seven straight victories. Two other individuals who posted good records throughout the season were Bob Teska and Bob Urdiales. Besides these three boys, it was team spirit and determination that upheld Park's tradition of being an outstanding cross country team. Tl? ,AISH Row One, Left lo Rigbl-G. Dickerson, J. Demet, R.
