But- more important than these years is the future. ln this future lies our world, for youth must take over the responsibilities left to it. With the world in its present turbulence, we can foresee that many members of our class will serve their country in the armed forces. Edu- cation is one answer to the end of the dilem- ma. Here at Park we have attained varied accomplishments. Individual characters have been molded more firmly while academically we have grown. Those who have worked and studied hard have a satisfaction which know- ledge brings. This book is a record of our last brief school year at Park which will long remain in our memories. st wsQwsvv XmmmQmmt. ,- DLDICATION For his ever-helping hand--for his lovable humor--for his close associations with us-for his hilarious ancedotes and reminisences-for his sin- cere and intense interest in us and our problems- for these and numerous intangible reasons, we the senior class, dedicate our l95l Kipi to Willard Iselin. A IOF-'-IS ADMINISTRATION As far as we can determine from his- tory no one voted for Valley Forge during the American Revolution. We know no one want- ed Gettysburg, Antietam, or Vicksburg dur- ing the Civil War. Generations before us gave up their lives reluctantly on our Western Plains and through the mountain passes. The past two World Conflicts have left white crosses scattered around the world as markers for those who died to help perpetuate an idea. These were some of the challenges faced by previous generations in order to give us our heritage. Who is to say that the present challenge is more difficult than these? C. I.. Amundson Most of us will long remember this school year as one of big snows and 24 degrees below zero temperature. These facts are worthy of some note but we hope you will also look back on the year l95O-l95l as one in which you achieved the realization of your goal as a successful citizen at Park High School. Your teachers and fellow students have enjoyed sharing experiences here with you. Regardless of how spectacular or out- standing your achievements have been, you too are part of the ever-increasing family of Parkites. Take pride in your associations here and, down through the years which lie ahead, may you draw strength and encouragement in carrying on the fine traditions for which Park High School stands. A. B. He was formerly from Racine before he moved to California. Last year he did exceptionally well in tennis and he has played two years of varsity basket- ball. This year he was Homecoming King for the football festival. Vice-president, .lack Bryant, made good with three years as an outstanding halfback on Park's football teams. Jack also made a fine showing in track in the lO0 yard dash. Bonnie Renquist, secretary, was Homecoming Queen at the football festival. She also has served on the Student Council. Gene Hegge, treasurer, was in the court of honor at the football festival and also is a member of A Cappella and the Executive Council. This year the Senior Class sponsored an all school party, Sadie Hawkin's Swing. To raise money for the class, many seniors sold candy at the basketball games. This year's Senior Prom's title was Carnival of Venice. Page thirtee- s in-Q -if 1 li Acklam Albright Andersen, C. Anderson, E. Andrese Adams Allen Anderson, A. Anderson, J. The make-up for this play was exceptionally difficult because of the costumes and the extensive coloration skin. All the scenery was built by the students themselves this year, which added to the difficulty and work behind this play, Designed for small-fry entertainment, the production was noisily and enthusiastically re- ceived. Castagna. Raw Two-J. Prasch, J. Phillips, W. Raymond. On September l5, a green Park squad traveled to Maywood, Illinois to tangleiwith a Praviso powerhouse, in their first game of the year. Proviso showed strength, to great effect, crushing the Panthers 46-0. The game was never in doubt as to outcome, Proviso scoring practically at will. Park opened the i950 Big-Eight series against Madison West, one of the more highly rated teams, at Horlick Field, on September 22. West scored quickly in the first quarter and then the game turned into a stale- mate until just seconds before halftime when the Regents countered again. Park's only TD came in the last quarter when Don Smith took a short pass from George Straube and gallaped sixty yards for a touchdown. Tne final score read West l9, Park 6. The Panthers won their first game at Janesville by a I3-O score, Park dominated play by stopping the Janesville offense cold. Jim Moore and Dick Willis ran the touchdowns across while Dick Sadlnn added the extra point on a run. L, to R. bottom row-G. Straube, W. Taylor, T. Sherman, J. Moore D. Rider, T. Nielsen, D. The Purgolders dominated play throughout the game. The Panthers no sooner recoverea from the drubbing East gave them, than the Red Devils from Kenosha presented them with a 37-7 shellacking. Park, however, was the only team that could hold the Kenosha Reserves, A 77 yard pass from George Straube to Bob Hall produced the only Orange and Blue score. Sadlon added the extra point. Park scored its second victory against Madison Central 3l-l3. Passes account- ed for three Panthers tallies, as the Panther offense hit its peak. Jack Bryant, Dick Sadlon, and Dale Rider each scored one touchdown, while Bob Hall added two in the Parkite's most lopsid- ed victory of the year. At Horlick Field, Park won its third game of the year at the expense of the Beloit team. Sadlon scored two touch- downs and Hall and Robert Lamberton added one each in the see-saw battle that saw Park lead at all times, Both teams scored consistently, but the Panthers finally wound up on top 25-20. Winding up the season against their arch rivals from Horlick, the Orange and Blue met with disappointment. Al- though thc boys played hard football, and almost had victory in their grasp, a fourth quarter pass to Danhauser of Horlick spelled defeat for the Panthers by a l3-7 margin. Dan Edwards scored the lone touchdown for the south siders when he took a short pass from Straube and sprinted down the eastern sidelines to score. Sadlon skirted the left end for the point after touchdown. The defeat dropped Park into a tie for fourth place with Horlick as the season drew to a close. He brought two boys along so well, in tact, that they were sent up to the varsity in the latter part of the season. Due to the loss of Jim Hansen and Roger Letsch to the varsity, the Bee's wound up in second place behind the Madison Central B team, losing to the Orange and Black by a 35-34 score in the deciding game. The Panther Cagers, in spite of their dismal record, played better ball than the record books show. They always put on a fine exhibition for the fans, and played hard, clean basketbali at all times. Buddy Androff, junior forward, led the team in indivi- dual scoring by accumulating 225 points in fourteen Big- Eight games, which was good enough for third place in league scoring. Against Beloit Leapin' Leo connected for 32 points, just two points short of the Big-Eight single game record. The Panthers had several good players in Bob Milslagle, Tom Lynch, John Martin, and Dick Willis. When these boys were on, Park won. Two sophomores, center Jim Hansen, and forward Roger Letsch were brought up from the B Squad late in the season, but while they were with the Varsity, proved very effective. A Park was involved in one record breaking game with the Purgolders from Madison East, which the Orange and Blue lost by a 83-60 count. The scores were record highs for both the winning and losing teams. The Panthers also set cl record for the number of fouls called on one team in a single game by having 34 miscues charged against them. The Panthers split their annual series with Horlick, winning the first encounter on the Park court and losing' the second game, which was played on the Horlick hardwood. Bob Milslagle, senior guard, captoined the 1950-51 cagers, and did a very commendable playing job at all times. All the boys who participated in the sport are to be accredited for their long hours of practice and for their hard work on the floor during the games. A fast- break from under the opponent's basket, with Dan Edwards and Dick Willis winging their way down the floor, leading Park to another score! Reboundl Rebound! Hands groping in the air trying desperately to get the ball for the honor of their team. Park had good re- bound men in Jim Hansen, Bud Androff, Bob Milslagle, and Tom Lynch. They would have jumped clean over the moon to get the rebounds for the Orange and Blue. That was the kind of basketball Park fans witnessed, and that is the reason people continue to watch the Panthers perform. After winning the senior championship in the tourament they played the winners of the sophomore-junior game. Then by winning that game, they received the honor of playing the faculty. The old men , howfver, proved too tough by trimming the school champs 25- O. The golf squad under the tutelage of Mr. Kuester has the makings of a fine team. Herbert Harwood, Steve Ed- wards, Dave Standiford, and Dick Seitz will all be back from last year's squad, while sophomore Don Johnson has quite a lot of talent and should lfelp the team considerably. Mr. Stewart's tennis team may have an average sea- son. They have two exceptionally good players in Gary Jensen and Tom Lynch, but will be lacking in all-over strength. Lost by graduation were Jeff Simpson, Harlan Hansen, and Bob Grant. Without these boys, the team will have a hard grind trying to achieve any great heights. Park's cross country team had its most unsuccess- ful season in many years. Coach Krause's boys had a good year, but it was unsuccessful from the standpoint that they did not win the state meet or the Big-Eight meet. In the last few years, Park has been very consistent in winning all of their meets. They also took only second place in the Lake Shore match which involved seven other teams. The leading barriers from Park this year were sophomore .lim Paulsen, junior Bob Urdiales, and senior Bob Rubel. Page eightylsix 'A is S1 Q v X- f is Gi f ii S '39 1 Y N .
