In these days of questioning and analyzing all of our social values, we, in the business of education, must also be ready to answer for our practices. No longer can we rate our success by the ability of pupils to satisfactorily pass examinations on the contents of textbooks used in the classrooms. Only as you Park High students and alumni go out into the adult world, better adjusted and able to cope with an increasingly complex life, can we claim any real degree of success. Woi'ds may be repeated letterfperfect, but it is our sincere hope that the lessons in democratic living here at Park High will be a source of strength and enrich' ment to you as you proceed onward through life. A. B. CLOSE Today, a group of students came in from an English class to tell me about their plans for helping boys and girls in a German orphanage. They showed me a letter from a former Park student now with the Army Air Forces in Germany. The letter told of the plight of these orphans, and their needs, particularly clothing. This former student, seeing their need, turned auto' matically to his high school for help. I am glad to know that former students feel that way about their school. I am happy that this boy asked Park to help. It is my hope that graduates in the years to come, will feel that they too may turn to Washington Park High School for help, whether they be in Racine or some foreign country. CARL L.
