Our photogra- pher catches a little of the color of the doings: The men do the work. Serving on the cleanup crew and appearing to enjoy the work are Messrs. Gach, Van Galder, Close, and Berven. Drum Major Iselin leads a qrand march to the girls' gym, followed by Color Guards Saetveit and Rowe, the band ISchulte and phonographl, Miss Baker and others including Ksee paqe 232 Van Galder, Miss Teuscher, Beach, Miss Shank- land, and Gach. The Virginia reel IMI. Saetveit and Mrs. Van Galder coming through! goes well until some- one finds a basketball and the men have a scrub game. 4-B squad boys learn that no arrangements can be made for playing the postponed Horlick game. Undefeated and untied in their Lakeshore league, and champions even if Horlick had won the unplayed game, they gather for a picture and a last few words from Coaches Petrakis and Nemacheck. -Iunior and B teams repeat with wins over Kenosha here, 19-13 and 13-0. Though playing in no league, the Iunior squad plays a full schedule of games 61941 record, 2 won, 2 lostl and frequently scrimmages the varsity, using plays and formations of Big Eight teams soon to be encountered. The group, coached by Mr. Gach, is segregated from the varsity in order to give the members playing experience and to prepare them for varsity competition. Pictured are: Back row: Mgr. D. Burczyk. Front row: E. Francois, Maynard Andersen, Belland, G. Koch, H. Erickson, and Pat Murphy. Park places twelfth in a field of 28 at the Mid- West cross country meet. Don Snyder is the fourteenth runner to cross the finish line. -Hain, so H. Howarth, E. Tiles, I. Clausen, and F. Drummond work out indoors on the ladders. -Navy films in assembly give us a glimpse of America's national defense efforts. -Cross country team ties Kenosha 29-29. -- Ierby day, and the Iunior B class demon- strates how a group party should be organized and run off, Virginia reel, refreshments and all. Albert Volpintesta and the Dougard boys, Iames and Leonard, help provide rhythm for dancers. -Weather, fine punting, and a husky Madison East line stop Park in a game at Lake Horlick. In a driving rain, in an ever increasing gloom as the light bulbs explode, we are eliminated from all championship consideration 19-2. Page 21 . -T? OCT-O BER, . 'T i-'IQI . Bob Morgan and Mr. Hall prepare to raise the colors. The band marches into position. Mr. Schulte leads the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, the band livens school spir- it with a stirring tune, and We go to classes. Park's talking football challenges Horlick in an assembly skit. Horlick's representatives ac- cept and that evening the favored Park team is held to a scoreless tie by an inspired Red and Grey eleven. Park threatens, but lacks scoring punch. -Teachers' convention-vacation! Mr. Iohnson returns president of the Wisconsin Graphic Arts Association. -Book week display is removed. Books, num- bering some 200, are placed on the shelves for general circulation. --The senior G.A.A. hockey team claims this year's championship. Squad members include: Betty Gilbertson, Ioan Marry, Stella Czajkow- ski Miss Dougherty, fadviserl, Sally Grove, Ieanne Roeschen, Beverly Kadlecik, Dolores Swenlci, Io Gaudio, Hose Leslcowicz, Marjorie Anderson, Beverly Poulsen, and Ianice Studey. -Armistice Day speaker, Dr. Leland DeVinney, asks that dictators be checked and the world be given a peace securing democracy for all men. Seniors about complete ordering their gradua- tion rings at advanced prices, plus the war tax. Pigs: 23
