EIGHTH GRADE BASKETB LL TEAM The players of the seventh and eighth grade basketball teams were divided into six teams. Teams 1 and 2 were coached by Mr. Longg teams 3 and 4 were coached by Mr. O'Connellg teams 5 and 6 were coached by Mr. Mohn. Four teams played at Westwood School every Friday during the season, and the other two teams were combined for games with other schools or played during the half-time of Varsity games. The aims of the coaches were to develop team spirit and individual skills, and to instill a keen sense of wholesome competition. SEVENTH GR DE BASKETB LL TEAM 82

NINTH GRADE BASKETB LL TEAM -1.1---v. Our Freshman team started their season with a 41-23 win over Bedford. Next we met Ottawa Hills and came out with a 36-25 victory. Bowling Green traveled up to meet our ninth graders and defeated them 31-30. Our Freshmen played a superior game and defeated DeVilbiss 36-32. We traveled to Fostoria to play the Red Men and made the journey a pleasing one with a victory, 32-19. Swanton was our next op- ponent and the Rebels won another, 42-27. We traveled over to Rogers with our boys a little over-confi- dent. However they played a very good game, being defeated in an overtime 42-36. Our next opponent was Ottawa Hills, which we had played previously. After a hard game we won 49-42. On February 12, the Fresh- men made their appearance before the Washington Jun- 1 ior High student body. They met C1ay's Freshmen, losing 39-29. On February 15, Bedford came and we had a student game at the Junior High, winning 34-14. On February 16, the Freshmen closed their season with a game at Clay, meeting their Freshmen in the preliminary of the varsity game and won 37-30. We ended our sea- son with 8 wins and 3 defeats. Mr. Erme coached this fine group. 81

The reason this record is remarkable is because the meets were against area and city high schools. Our leading pointgetters were Leonard Walker, who ran the 112 mile and William Hughes, who ran the mile.
