The Class of '74 is the first class to graduate after four full years of co-education, the 4-1-4 and Dr. Burnett. In all, they have been successful years, but many of the kinks in the system which originated in '70, still remain. The problems exist for only one reason-no one cares. Apathy, of course, is a tiresome subject to most, but it exists, and it shouldn't. Case in point: For years students have been complaining that W 8: J is a cultural wasteland, but the W 8L J Arts Festival, one of the finest in the state, is always pathetically under- attended. The City Center Acting Company was here again this year for two brilliant performances, the student tumout was em- barrassing. Those same nights a fraternity showed Deep Throat -a skin flick. The attendance could have filled Trinity auditorium. This is one isolated event, of course, but it typifies the student attitude in all facets of the college. Assistant Football and Basketball Coach, Robert Woolfe, resigned this year to take a position elsewhere. Did he leave for monetary reasons, or was there more behind it? He left with these words: The students want to win, but something is missing. Student apathy here is horrible . . . It makes me sick to look at the small crowds we get at basketball games. Something is missing. The point is that there are no problems at W 8: J which cannot be solved by the students. There is not one policy that cannot be changed if the majority of the students demand it. But change will not come about by talking about it in the yearbook. l W 8a J has done alot of people alot of good-the class of '74 can attest to that. Most wrongs are self-inflicted. Apathy is a type of academic masochism. W 8L J will survive. It will because there will always be a certain core of students, however small, who care. W 8a J will not become a community college or a second rate academic institution. It will not be abandoned by the alumni, or become an athletes' graveyard. W 8a J will live because some people care.
