The Knickerbocker Staff Remembers By GERI AGCAOILI Leaving Irving is a big stepinto the future. All of us in the A9 are very sad at the thought that we have to leave all our friends and teachers that we have grown to depend on and love. But as we leave, we do not have all sad thoughts. We are sort of looking forward to high school, to the new challenges, and most of all higher learning. As we leave we take with us many cherished memories. I know that all of us can remember the first day here at Irving, and how everyone called us scrubs. Some of us were led to believe there was a pool on top of the gym and an elevator in the main building. We remember all too well the fuss that we made when we found out that we only had five minutes to take showers in gym. But those were the gool old days, when we looked forward to graduating. But now we realize that we only wanted the pres- tige that the A9s had. Some of the girls will remember the thrill of stepping through the frame to become Girl of the Month. The boys were so proud when they were chosen Player of the Month or even Player of the Year. Some of us remember when we were running for Student Body Offi- cers. How nervous we were when we had to make our speeches. I know that all of us remember when the Leadership class had Appre- ciation Week. How surprised and hap- py the teachers were. Yes, our three years have gone by real fast. We can see the changes they have made in us. We cannot repay faculty and administrators for the guidance and knowledge they have given us. We on the Knickerbocker staff would like to give everyone a big thank you and bid you goodbye. By MAX ALEXANDER Time really goes by fast, doesn't it? It seems like three days ago, but real- ly it's been three years. I know all you A9s have memories of past events and happenings here at Irving. Re- member when we were scrubs and all the other students pestered us about the swimming pool on top of the gym. Remember also the hard time you had finding your new classes. Now when you're leaving it, it seems as if you know every bit of Irving like your own home. I don't know whether to be happy or sad or what. One thing is for sure though, I had the chance of attending the best junior high in the world. By JEANETTE HOGUE As our graduation nears I look back on the lovely memories I've had at Irving. It all started the first day I came to Irving as a B7. The halls seemed so big to me. Everyone was new, exciting and different. How all of us looked up to the A9s and couldn't wait to be one. I guess I really couldn't believe I was almost an A9 until the student body elections were held. We all were so excited. All of a sudden our A9 semester was here and it was time to elect our class officers. I remember how won- derful it was when we got the results: Dennis Scherr as president, Gerry Brown as vice president. Vicki Foster as secretary, and John Wurfl as treas- urer. Next it was time for our class name and motto. We chose Etruscans as the name and Youth-the hope of the Future as our motto. The A9 Get Together was next and was upon us before we knew it. We had a wonderful time at the talent show and then in the cafeteria. The party was here soon after and we all came to school dressed for the occa- sion. The last, but not least, the most awaited for activity this semester as a class-graduation. By BARBARA ROBERTS Now that the time has come for me to leave Irving, I look back at those past three years with a yearning feel- ing: but most of all this past semester has been the most fun of all. At the beginning of this semester when I became the editor of the Knickerbocker, we fthe staff and Il were worried that the paper would be a flop. We all worked hard on all of the issues of the paper, and then on the annual, we even worked harder. With Mr. Stone, our advisor, helping us with our problems on the paper, telling us when we were wrong and when we were right, adding sugges- tions of stories that could be written, we made it through this semester. Many a time I thought that our deadline would not be met, but some how, out of the clear blue sky, all for most alll of the stories would turn up. Maybe they were a little late, but they would be there. Then we would have to copyread all of them and set up the pages. When a page was a little short we would stick in a joke for you to read. Now you see the last work of our staff. In the annual we poured out our hearts and worked like mad men, trying to get it done on time. Now you see that we have accomplished this last little deed. By GANKA BETSCHEFF On January 26 another chapter of my life will have been completed. That day I will receive my diploma from Washington Irving Junior High School. Not only will I have a future to look forward to but also a memor- able past. There are so many everyday inci- dents that today I wouldn't pay atten- tion to, but in years to come they will bring memories. One of these incidents could be the jamboree at the lockers. Probably one of the most important factors of our school would be the administrators: Mr. Dooly, Mr. Currin, Miss Walker, Mr. Guadagnolo, and of course Mr. Little, who have made my past semester and a half at Irving memorable. The members of the faculty will never know how much help they have been. Until I get settled in the new high school, I certainly will miss the friendly hellos I have gotten from friends while on route to classes. I remember well my first day at Irving, when I saw many strange faces, which have now become famil- iar, walking down the halls in confu- sion. There are many other incidents I could write about while attending Irv- ing. What happens next is something I won't want to miss. However there is one thing for sure I'll never forget the time I have spent at Washington Irving Junior High. By Doms ABEL I can't really say that any one ex- perience that I had was my fondest memory. Instead, all of the three years that I spent at Irving will be remembered, always.-I found out that after you have been at Irving for so long, you get to know and become part of its traditions. I enjoyed all my teachers, although I must admit, some more than others. I can truthfully say that I learned a great deal of things, all of which w-ill help me in high school and in the years to come. One thing that I shall never forget is the two semesters I spent on the Knickerbocker staff. I realized that in order to have an efficient paper, you need team work, and I think, that if I were to go through Irving all over again, I wouldn't do it with any other class but ours. tContinued on Page 303
