Q L: fi, N ik, gy 4h 'Q 'T ,faq L ,1- ll X if Be Square During the year l948 l949 the Be Square members worked to uphold the ideals of Washington Irving High School As in previous years, the girls assisted the school by helping with traffic in the hall- waysg in February they co-operated with Hi-Y to present the annual Hi-Y-B Square chapel , R ' V ' I prog ram As a special project the members sold name labels in order to get money to cover the yearly expenses Each member continued to spend at least one study hall a week with Nancy Bates Officers for the group were Mar garet Garret president Retha Savage vice president Helen Toothman secre tary and Margaret Snow treasurer Student Librarians Functioning under the supervision of Miss Griffin and Miss Kishbaugh, the library pro- vided necessary and interesting material for the student body. It is a source of material for pleasure-reading as well as for supplementary material for class work. This year, Judy Ash, Mary Allice Grimes, Mary Ann Sutter, Margaret Saucer, Ruth Moore, Greta Samuel, Nancy Carskadon, Lilian Fiora, Constance Wilkinson, and Margaret Snow served as student librarians. The Tigers led at the half, W. I. won a hard-fought contest from Fairmon East in an overtime, 44-42. The old familiar fourth quarter rally which netted eighteen points against Fairmont's six, put the game into an overtime. Dutton Stoy won his spurs at the forward slot opposite Larimer, by adding ten points to the Hilltop score. Larimer and Morris each had ten. W. I. easily beat Grafton 59-39 as a second half spurt outscored Grafton by nineteen points. Corsini led the W. I. attack with thirteen points, followed by Yates with twelve, Morris and Larimer with ten each, and Stay with eight. The Gold and Blue clinched the city championship by edging out the Orange and Black of Victory, 59-55, in a blazing last quarter rally led by Dave Larimer. Larimer contributed sixteen of the twenty-one points W. I. scored in the last quarter and ended with twenty-five, individual high total for the year.
