Dear Graduates of 1957: Your choice of history as the yearbook theme means, I hope, that you realize that what we are and what we have are the result, in part at least, of what happened to our ancestors, our families, our country and our world before we arrived on the scene. World history is complex, but the things that have happened to you during your years at Washington Irving High School are also a kind of history. You can look back and decide how to change your ways, if you should, so that you will not make the same kinds of mistakes in the future. You can decide too what you have gained and what abilities you have that ought to be developed further. Nly hope for you is that you will hold fast to the things that are good, so that you may become responsible, helpful women whose lives will con- tinue to show forth Washington Irving High SchooI's ideals of industry, integrity and intelligence. You take with you my congratulations and my good wishes for happy years ahead. Sincerely yours,
