Ax -A 4 9' 76447 The memorable day in July 1950 when twenty one young people entered Washington High School is one to be chertshed forever With eagerness and much anticipation we faced the task of launching out upon four years of high school work Miss Hale our sponsor guided us in our freshman year Our officers were Robert Scott president George Wesley vice president and Juanita Dixon secretary As freshmen we took an active part tn all school activrties Garrett Owens George Wesley Robert Scott and Mathis Whitaker went out for basketball and track Geneva Wright Juanita Dixon Betty Deloney and Sue McCoy became a part of the girls basketball team Also some members of the class were on the newspaper staff We had a surprise rn store for us in our sophomore year Twelve students matriculated at Washington High School from a Junior high school 1n I-lermondale Our number was now ln creased to thuty three Our officers this year were Garrett Owens president J T Hurd secretary and Wilbert Johnson Ueasurer Our class presented the play Freshman B111 as a part of the actrvrtres of our sophomore year Our sponsor Mrs Manning encouraged us to participate rn all activities patmg 1n the various activities we started off the school year with several of our class having leading parts in the dramatic club production of Little Miss Somebody Mr Srmmons our sponsor helped us make the prom one of the high lights of our school career Strictly Confidential the senior class play was a howling success with some of the members of our class partrclpatlng We are seniors now Proud are we to be members of the Class of 54 Our goal rs near at hand More eager than ever are we to respond to our new responsibilities We elected George Wesley president Robert Scott vice president I T Hurd secretary and Sue McCoy treasurer Our class of seventeen members with the assistance of our sponsor Mrs Burgess expects to make thts the crowning year of our school work With that determination to go forth and succeed we leave behind us a Joyful past full of fond memories Having gamed confidence through the years and with high hopes with which to face the future we leave reluctantly to take our places in varlous communities of the world May our parents principal sponsors and teachers who have guided us through the years not feel that rhetr labors have been rn vain We the Class of 54 express our sincere gratitude THE SENIOR CLASS 0 ' - . . . , D .
