When I ex- plored the train, I found the engineer to be 'I-lomer Becker , with John Redhage as his right hand man. I took a taxi to the Ritz Ho- tel, owned by Tom Fenner who has as his personal secretary Shorley Jones . In my chat with the cab driver Ifound that Norbert Terrel' was the owner of New York's Yellow Cab. On the way to the hotel, we witnessed a severe traffic accident. As Ipeered out of the window, I recognized at the scene of the accident a former classmate, Harley I-Ioemann , now Chief of Police in New York City. An on the spot reporter hastily snapping pictures for the norming edition of the Times was Bill Bohling . After this minor delay, I arrived at the hotel and saw at the desk Harlen Kuddes , now manager of the Ritz.. I found my room equipped with TV. Turning it on for a few minutes, I happened to see on the Bud Olten Popularity Plus Show a special attraction, Jeanne Essmueler surpassing any hit ever made by Dagmar. Also on TV was Isola Morris appearing as a soloist with the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra. As hostess of the hotel's coffee shop, I found Audrey Krebaum , who informed me that Don Conrad was now chief chef for the main dining room. At one of New Yorks famous night spots,I danced to the senti- mental music of the famous Don Bunge band. Among the members of the band, were Helen Wright and Marie Lindauer , featured soloists. One of the top entertainers of the evening was Jack Hage- dorn , crooning the love melodies of the famous song writer Cohlene Dunagan . The next morning Anna Mae Wolking served me break - fast in bed. I went to the Goo- La- La Beauty Salon owned by Marvel Woodburn . Serving me there with the greatest of skill, were Betty Kriete ,top manicurist, Marian Kassebaum ,and Virginia Katzung . I went on an extravagent spree in some of the most exclusive New York shops. Helen Kasel , an expert on fashions, helped me select my new wardrobe. In the fashion revue one of the outstanding models was Ruthie Satterfield . Lionel Gonzalez was also present exhibiting his latest world-famous creations, and near by was Joan Kingsbury , head of his staff of designers. I ate my lunch in a small restuarant owned and operated by Wilbert Taetz . Gazing out the window, I saw a large dime store owned by Eleanor I-Ioemeyer . In the afternoon, I drove out to visit Columbia University where I saw Mary Frances Smith , now head of the department of biology. Looking around, I also saw Alvina Klick , one of the colleagues in the department of psychology. Back at the hotel I found one of my former classmates, Don Taylor , working on book condensatiolns for the Reader's Digest . I heard that Betty Anthony , a famous crusader for women's rights in the South, was in the Bellevue General Hospital recovering from a recent illness. I decided to visit her. On the way we had to pull aside to let an emergency ambulance whiz by. Who was occupy- ing the Drivers' seat but Rich Heidbrink ! 33 SENIOR PROPH ECY Entering the hospital, I recognized Joan Lindauer now serving as Superintendent of Nurses. She told me that she had recently attended a meeting where Jo Ann Dittemore was elected president of the American Association of Surgical Nurses. Near the hotel is the Charles Gross Funeral Home. I-le has a very enterprising business. After a lovely dinner, I went to Madison Square Garden for the all- star sports revue. The pro-basketball star of the year was Bill Pence . Other stars familiar to me were Don Miller , who received the trophy as the greatest big league baseball player of the year, Betty fMusclesQ Burton , who is now one of the outstanding women wrestlers, Shirley Crump and Marilyn Gardner , who are featured skating to the delightful tunes from Shearon Thomassen's accord- ion, and Betty Ronsick , the Olympic track star. A wonderful even- ing .... The following day I prepared to leave New York. At the La Guar- dia Field I saw working in the office as top secretaries to the execu- tive of TWA, Ruth Glosemeyer and Mary Ellen Sprague . Hastening to catch the plane, I saw the attractive stewardess was an old friend, Rosie Schuette . She warned me that the pilot of this plane was Billy Joe Froning . I stopped for a few minutes in Washington D. C. and saw that Donovan Sprick had been victorious in his campaign to become Secretary of Agriculture. I found Amy Lindauer, Janis Baumann, Betty Mills, and Marcia Potts who have top positions as secretaries at the FBI office. On the plane to St. Louis was another acquaintance Darlene Cowan , a very efficient stewardess on the Capital Airlines. She told me that Harlen Meyer , owner of the Airline, was on this same flight with his private secretary, Wilma Obermann . Arriving in St. Louis, I found that hotels were crowded because of the American Farmer's Convention. Some of the out- standing farmers there were Walter Schlemper , a feed company ownerg Robert Heisel , a prominent cattle rancher from Texas, Francis Swoboda , head of the Missouri Farmers Association, and Earl Mueller , who raises race horses in Kentucky. Also in St. Louis was Robert Lause , who now teaches agriculture at the Uni- versity of Missouri. Thus ended a wonderful trip which brought back many pleasant memories of the good times we had at WHS 'way back in 1952.
