Sllllltll EHHNIIH Washington High School recognizes student participation in school government as an important part of school activities. Its purpose is to secure cooperation of faculty and student body in the solution of school and com- munity problems. A still more important purpose is to give students actual experience in the exercise of their rights and obligations as citizens of the school republic, Student participation in government in any high school is subject to faculty and school regulation. Within these limits the decision of the students is final. At the beginning of the 1940-41 school year, each home room from the seventh to the senior' grade, elected their representative which constituted a total membership of thirty-two. The Council in turn elected their first officers: Eddie Brothers, president, Bill Miley, vice-president, Sylvia Pinnick, secretary, Harry Barrett, treasurer. The sponsors of the Student Council are Mr. Hosea Russell and Miss Dorothy Schmidt.
