THIC XY.-XSlellXtl'l'ONI.XN 23 CLASS HISTORY Four years, minus three months, our fathers brought forth to this high school a new lfreshman class, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all students are created equal, They became engaged in a great war, testing whether that class or any class so conceived and so dedicated can long endure the threats and taunts of the upperclassmen. The first year of the war was the most severe. The lfreshmen were handi- capped in many ways. We had a very meager knowledge of the battlegrounds. Vve, the Freshmen of 19.27, worked and studied diligently to put ourselves on an intellectual parity with the upperclassmen. The faculty remained neutral and became advisors of both armies. The Freshmen seemed to really be getting the breaks and by the end of the year we were heading the list of strong contenders for the following year. llut while these four years have elapsed we, these self-same students, have by observation, adaptability and willingness to follow in the footsteps of our superiors, overcome many of our shortcomings and have risen to that position which is coveted by all hluniors. Ile are Seniors. ln the course of these years a few have fallen by the wayside, and our ranks have now dwindled to one hundred and seventeen. - In the past we have supported all the school activities and are glad to say that our services were freely given to any project for the bettermen of the school. Our class is proud of the fact that we have as fellowinen, boys who helped win the State llasketball Tournament of 1930. XYe are closing this four-year struggle. We dedicate a portion of our time to those who gave their labor that this class might become what it is today. We highly resolve that these shall not have labored in vain: that this school shall have a 11ew birth of freedom and that the government of the Seniors, by the Seniors, and for the Seniors shall not perish from this school. In conclusion, we wish to say that as we are leaving XY. H. S., we wish the rest of the student body to be as successful as we have been.
