Neither cold, nor dark halls, nor threat of being squirted by a water fountain, could unnerve WSHS's indispensible monitors. All would have been mayhem without them. Jim Patten, John Rustwick and Pat Wood composed the monitor board that chose each semester's monitors. To enforce the mandates of the Student Council and the administration, monitors issued tickets to offenders, who then appeared before the Ethics Committee for judgment. When 3,100 students fill a space designed for 2,100, conditions become pressing, to say the least. Monitor Tom Bauer helped avoid panic by his careful watch between periods. Armed with a bottle of Coke and a full pen, Jim Patten Wearily attacked the pile of monitor tickets that accumulated in the monitor office. 27 The Ethics Committee, Dave Rothenberger, Ed Walton, Nancy Carlsen, Jane Norberg, Ron Light, Don Cutshall, and Dave Bauer, exemplified the judicial branch of school gov- ernment as they sat in judg- ment during the trial of offenders.

Monitors to the Rescue in Crowded Halls Because of beter acoustical conditions, Student Council officers Don Cutshall, Ron Light, Martha Yunker, and Janet Anderson held their discussions in Room 202. This year the Student Council again took its rather nominal place in school govern- ment. The members casually dispensed with the regular projects and dealt with the tradi- tional topics of food drives and the Foster Parent Plan. Controversy flared only twice W glg during the school year. The first was over 5 the much discussed clothing code suggested by the administration. It was passed. The second concerned a point system proposed by Martha Yunker which limited the num- ber of school offices a student could hold. The proposition died. On the Watch outside, as Well as in, the monitor pa- trol headed by Ed Walton protected pedestrians and . tQft.- motorists alike by catch- lzzf Q ing j ay-walkers. 26

H On October 23, United Nations Assembly Day, blue and White I.R.C. ribbons sprouted on a multitude of shoulders. Although large in numbers, the active membership of the International Relations Club later dwindled to a small core. The club sponsored Chilean exchange student Val Ambrosio. Members of the I.R.C. cabinet Mory Anderson, Mike Ogborn, Martha Yunker, Curt Mundt, Janet Anderson, Bill DeGroot, Don Cutshall, Randy Miller, and Val Ambrosio organized such other activities as a U.N. Day assembly, a UNICEF drive, and a social hour. Meet Val, invited the sign on the white convertible in the Ol.L.D homecoming pa rade. Val Ambrosio rode With her American sister Judy Knowles 28
