FYZG that paper! Yivpe the bulletinf Stack those booksf Every day certain Washington High students gave their time and energy doing jobs that make the 'school operate more eihciently. In the book rooms, the office, the cafe- teria, and the library, ambitious workers could always be found be- fore the 8 :SO bell, during study halls and lunch periods, and after the seventh period. Some were paid for their efforts, others Worked for a semester's credit, and still others volunteered their services for the sheer joy of getting out of study hall. Student Workers practiced librar- ian skills while assisting sopho- mores in compiling notes for their research papers.

The Sioux Valley Hospital mobil- teria saved thousands of steps for Volunteen Margaret Austin. Pa- tients anticipated dinner and cheer- ful Candy Stripers' smiles. Puzzles can frustrate a tw0-year- old child, but with gentle guidance of a Volunteen, they became satis- fying and interesting for hours. ' Candy Stripers Earned Caps Little girls dispensing bandaids to dollies often grow up to be Candy Stripers, giving comfort and en- tertainment to real patients. In a few short hours of volunteer work, a devoted Candy Striper could soothe the tears of a boy dreading a tonsillectomy, serve din- ner to a hundred patients, deliver countless letters and flowers, and do many other non-professional but necessary tasks.
