SUN-FUN FESTIVAL The trip made by the band to Myrtle Beach June 7-9 for the Sun-Fun Festival and the Miss South Carolina Beauty Pageant has a multitude of wonderful memories for the band and the chaperones. A chartered bus made the rather dismal-weathered trip to Myrtle Beach, but the weather was forgotten when we were greeted royally and warmly by the Myrtle Beach Fire Department members and their wives, who served our supper at the Rec, Hall, The boys were bedded at the Fire Department, while the girls were housed at the pine-paneled Recreation Hall about two miles from town, The girls were fortunate to have a free-playing juke box, a piano, and a ping-pong table, That night we were guests of the Fire Department at the first part of the Miss South Carolina Beauty Pageant, Luckily, we saw Marian McKnight, who now reigns as Miss America, as well as Mickey Spillane who was a judge, and Sharon Kay Rickey, the past Miss America.
