A valiant team, composed of steadfast players, went dovvn in defeat in eight out ol the nine games played during the past season. The defeats were not due to laclc ol heart or courage, but rather to the bad brealcs for the teams as a Whole. The outstanding event of the season was the defeat of Charlotte at the hands ol the masterful Generals. Without a doubt, the deciding factor of the game was the fine pitching of Conrad Jan- kovvslci. l lis coolness in tight places and his brilliant form enabled the Generals to vanquish a lighting Charlotte team. 78

Zazzaro T E N N IS The Tennis Team proved their worth during the past season. Their sportsman-Iilce attitude in defeat as well as their grace in victory were characteristic of Washington High. Although the members re- ceived little public recognition, they did not relax in their effort to prove the superiority of Washing- ton teams in character as well as ability. They finished third of ten schools in interscholastic compe- tmon' BOWLING With a record of eight victories as against one defeat, the bowling team is iustified in gloating over the past season. The most impressive of all victories was the defeat of the Franklin Keglers. All of the victories registered were due to the cooperation of the team as a whole and not to any one in- dividual. GO LFING Although vve have not as yet entered a golfing team in interscholastic competition, individual play- ers have nevertheless been developing slcill, just in case. WRESTLING Under the supervision of Mr. Kress, Washington High is developing some top notch wrestlers. Through the open door of the corrective room can be heard the grunts and groans of the gladiators as each clamps a punishing hold upon the other. Should wrestling become an interscholastic sport vve should be prepared for a championship team. HORSE SHOE PITCHING Although Washington did not finish in the first division this last season, the pitchers neverthe- less gave the opposition plenty of trouble. 80
