Attcptmg the County Trophy Lefty Mert and Coach me Vanity 7211 TOPS IN BALL HANDLING Washington High School has every right to be proud of Glenn Lefty Nelson. During the past season he scored 614 points. . . the highest number of points that has ever been scored in the state of Ohio. The former high mark was 484 points. In eleven different games, Lefty scored more points than the entire opposition. Last year as a Iunior, Lefty scored 381 points, making his total for the two years 995 points. This scoring ability and his general playing ability caus- ed Lefty to be named as a forward on the All Ohio Second Team. According to the newspapers, he was not placed on the first team because the other players had met tougher competition. His shooting ability was uncanny. He was equal- ly good with long shots and lay-up shots. His field goal shooting average was approximately 34170 for the two years . . . an average which is exceptionally good for any high school athlete. Lefty is not only a basketball playerg he is a top- notch baseball player as well. Being left-handed makes him a natural first baseman. He also pitches occasionally and his hitting is superb. Last fall, in 16 times at bat, he walked twice, hit three home runs, three triples, four doubles, and two singles. He can play on our team anytime. This spring, after school is out, Lefty has an opportunity to go to Cincinnati for a try-out with the Reds. He has the stuff to make a success and here's hoping he makes the best of it. We feel sure that he will. Coach Russell B. Christian First Bauman Nelson
