Lewis fPaper Salej TI-IE JUNIQR CLASS Wluen Washingtoll High School was opened in 1939, the three upper classes were made up of students who had attended high school in Portsmouth. The Iunior Class of this year, 1942, was the first Freshmen Class at Washington and next year will be the first graduating class to have completed four years here. The Freshmen Class of l939-40 adapted itself very well to the new school and several clubs were organized, many of which still exist. There were skating parties where everyone enjoyed himself . . . up or down. Last year, these same students were more active, being better acquainted with high school life and not being called g'Freshie by every upper classman. The Sophomore Class ranked high scholastically, also athletically, producing some of the basketball team's best players. The third year of school is one of the busiest, for plays must be given and money obtained for the Iunior-Senior Prom and Banquet. The students of the Iunior Class have responded magnificently to their duties. A successful play Called Tempest and Sunshine , directed by lNIrs. Donley, was presented and produced a great amount of money in the class treasury. In lN'Iarch, a skating party was held at rhc rink. The second play, The Hoosier Schoolmaster , was another amusing and successful comedy. A Fitting closure for the year was the Iunior-Senior Prom. The members of the IuniorClass are looking forward to next year being seniors and having all the accorded seniority rights. They will do their best to uphold the standards of VVashington.
