'Tvx 1... Our teachers play a vital part in our lives. Their direction, in- fluence, and GUIDANCE help us to succeed in our high school careers. In the classrooms they instill in us a desire to learn, culti- vate our minds, and develop our skills. When we meet them as club sponsors and coaches of athletic teams, we come to know them personally and enjoy their friendship. The teachers of Waslmington High School have helped to lead us in setting our high standards and achieving our reputation. They inspire our life.

. -115425,-, , Mr. john Power's connection with Washington dates back to his high school days, when he was out for athletics all the year round and served as Sports Editor of the Scroll Bi- Weekly. His interest in sports has never falteredg for when he began his teaching career at Washington, he also began coaching football. For six years he built a formidable Powers team. He then gave up coaching and devoted most of his time to the teaching of sociology. Last September he was promoted to the position of acting vice-principal for the fall semester. Washington is grateful for the service he rendered so well. IN TRIBUTE When Miss Lillie Spiering left Washington after thirty- 5- 1 four years, both the students and the faculty lost a wonderful friend and excellent teacher. She holds a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin and has visited important his- torical places in the United States. With a background of social studies, Miss Spiering continues to be very active in civic affairs and hold prominent positions on committees. She served as a Representative to the Milwaukee Unit of the United Nations and is a member of the Inter-Group Council for the Position of Women in Public Affairs. Today, in con- nection with her church and club work, Miss Spiering enjoys entertaining at the home she shares with her sister. J. A. POWERS ll Arling Vice-principal First Semester W. L. BRAUER Vice-principal Second Semester At midyear, Washington added an important person to the faculty, Mr. Walter L. Brauer. Filling a vacancy left by Mr. B. B. Burling, vice-principal, he acts as counsellor, super- visor, and administrator. He attended Nebraska State Teachers College, Iowa State, and Northwestern, where he received degrees in engineering and education. He also holds a doctor's degree in education from the University of New York. Mr. Brauer has resided in Wisconsin since 1930, having been a mathematics teacher at Rufus King and vice-principal at Pulaski High School. He likes Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and best of all Washington! And we like Mr. Brauer and extend to him best wishes in a job well begun!
