To a visitor the office creates a fine impression with its freshly painted walls, venetian blinds, and individual desk lamps. The painting of Mr. Balzer serves as a constant inspiration to both faculty and students. The corps of industrious monitors spell efficiency for Washington. They sort and file data, open lockers, answer the phone, relay messages, assist at the counter, and otherwise aid the faculty and student body. Another corps of volunteer Workers serve in the infirmary. Alternate teams, of two girls each, administer to our physical needs before and during school hours. These girls also assist the doctor and nurses in physical check-ups and records. It is impossible to estimate the valu- able part our indispensable monitors play in keep- ing our school functioning smoothly. Top Row: J. cafli, M. Juedes, M. Crampney, J. Uekert, J. Mangan, D. Seeing is believing. The corps of eighteen visual-aid cadets demonstrate this daily with their timely films and slides. Their audio equipment has also proved most valuable . . . To the frantic loser of a pen, scarf, or wallet the Lost-and-Found is an essential part of our school. A close neighbor is the Library with its well-stacked shelves and capable staff. During the past year 800 new books, a teachers' reference secetion, new magazine racks, subscriptions to four metropolitan papers, and hanging copper flower pots were added. The value of our school aids is truly immeasurable. Top Row: Perlick, A. Papa, C. Schaefer, G. Grim, B. Schultz, D. Holtz, L. Suchy, C. Bach, E. Bergen. R010 Two: M. Erdman, L. Knurh, K. There's no need to ask what's the news of the day if you take the Washington Scroll. As each Wednesday rolls around, students are called to their homerooms to get the latest. Our school paper gives a composite of all important functions as well as topics of general interest. When you see the Scroll peaking out of a notebook, the lirst thing you spot are the ears with their timely sayings. Closer investigation reveals club write-ups, the 'tArouncl-the-Dial column, a complete and accu- ,rate sports section, a Popping-the-Question column, humor section, and enlightening editorials. The Scroll has merited a Pacemaker rating sixteen con- secutive times, and during the past year gained once again highest honor in the Medill Award. Geered to this efficiency, the business staff aided by getting subscriptions, advertisements, circulation Csome 1,740j, exchanges with other high schools, and contact with alumni. What a proud feeling each 'Tonian has, for he knows what's what be- cause of the Scroll!
