FORWARD Billions of gold; acres of dead! What are we to do about it? Obviously, the peace and safety of future generations must be insured. How? Simply by teaching youth the truth about war. Sometimes education is called a search for truth: again it is defined as a means to enable men to live together in harmony. Modern high school education must be both. Curricular work must make youths hate war for its horror, its inhumanity. 'Extrazcurrir cular activities must develop intensive interests in peacertime pursuits. Back of these two influences Will be a third, the faculty, guiding with wisdom and Vision the impressionistic youth. . If in this way the school teaches students to hate war and love peace, we may rest assured that those students as citizens will never be sacrificed to the cupidity of profiteers and the vanity of politicians; and if this ideal is ever to become a reality, we, as students, must bear ever in our hearts the last ringing challenge of our Alma Mater: iiThe seas of life are turbulent, but the wheel of the ship of fate is in your hands. Plot your course accurately; follow your compass faithfully. Beware the reef of shallow selfishness; let your vessel not be swerved by wind or wave. With your goal, the placid harbor of peace, take your stand firmly, back to the shoals, face to the starselooking forwardV
