To the Class of 1946 The four classes immediately preceding yours were graduated from Washington High School into a world at war The one great duty which members of those classes had to face after completing high school was to do their part to bring World War II to a successful conclusion Now, actual hostilities between nations are at an end and you in a few short weeks will be graduated IHIO a world which, even though the treaties have not been signed IS technically at peace It behooves you and all of us to thank Grd for that And yet though international hostilities are over this old world 15 still very sick and real peace is by no means won We of the so called civilized world sometimes pride ourselves on the progress we have made since the tlmes of our forefathers, and we are justified in feeling considerable satisfaction with mans accomplishments in the realm of the physical sciences and in the use which has been made of them in the held of almost every conceivable type of invention However the other side of the picture is not so at tractivc because although we have made great advances in the physical world, we solving the problems of human relations The very fact that men, women, and children by the millions are starving that nations still view each other with sus PICIOI' that people whose SlilI1 happens to be white look down on those of a dlf ferent color and that capital and labor have not learned to get along with each other is sufhcient proof of this Ir is my ardent hope that during your years at Waslmington High School you may have learned to put into practice and to hve some of the fundamentals of the selence of human relations, that science which teaches human beings to hve together 111 1 friendly LlI'l56llClbl1 manner putting into practice the Golden Rule, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you lr you and the milhe ns of other young people hlce you are really in earnest in w anting to hve your hves in accordance with that principle then and only then will there be true happiness and peace on earth Miv God bless you PAUL TH RUSTERHOLZ, Principal ' Q I x 7 lf .
