Spirit becomes evident in series of firsts The idea of striving to be first is not only evident in the final score but the fansispirits Of support. The drive is seen in the expressions of concentration on the faces of Robin McLean and Steve Boyd, pictured above. This attitude is continued throughout a series of firsts in Washington High School. The 1982-1983 football team has achieved the first winning season since 1978. The 19 seniors have been the first to go through three years with Coach Mitchell and his programs of weightlifting and a . . PRIDE!!! The girls, tennis team added more links to the chain of spirit by picking up where last years wres- tlers left off. The WHS wrestling team was undefeated in the NEAC conference. A series of firsts is not necessar- ily limited to sports. It appears in academic life as well. The class of 1983 is the first class to graduate under the leadership of Principal Ronnie Wilson. This is just one of the many firsts for the Class of 1983. The chain theory started by Mitchell has carried to the other sports by showing that you do not have to have a winning score but rather a winning spirit to back it up. 11
