PACKROMAK 19 4 8 Volume VIII Published by BETA CLUB WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL Washington, North Carolina SPORTSMANSHIP IS A STANDARD Wildly cheering croiods—led on by the en- th isiasm of the twirling-skirted, cavorting cheer¬ leaders—bottle pops cmd peanuts—precision blue and white figures of the band v ' ith their gleam¬ ing instruments — crisp, autumn air —a feeling of fraternity, pride and love—all these are character¬ istics of American sports. With the passing of the seasons we change our type of sports but never the ideal behind all of them—the ideal of leadership, clean living, and fair play. When the athlete looks back on his past accomplishments he strives to maintain all of these qucdities throughout his life. The laurel wreath, the ancient symbol of the accomplished athlete—the American athlete strong in mind and body—a living example of sportsmanship as a standard. DEDICATION TO Miss Myrtie Cooper, James “Choppy” Wagner, William “Bub” Sweel WE respectfully dedicate this 1948 volume of the Packromak in deepest appreciation of your Leadership, Friendship, and Loyalty, which you have instilled in us both on the athletic fields and in the classrooms. You have made the fame of Washington High School more illustrious and have built for us a shining future. Three ADMINISTRATION Mr. E. a. West, Superintendent Miss Mary Ella Cooper, Secretary Mr. G.
