lt is wonderful to have true friendsl You have had many opportunities in Washington l-ligh School to meet students and members of the faculty who will mean much to you in the years ahead. They are friends who cost you nothing and who will prove most dear to you. You may have discovered that it is the giving of the heart from both sides that makes friendship, and.I am sure that most of you have learned to give of yourself in forming the bonds of true friendship. It is as important to be a friend as it is to have a friend, and our school, our community, and our America are rich in opportunities for people to find others of like tastes and interests to share joys and sorrows, You have proved to be a friendly group of young men and women. We hope that your hi h school experiences have helped you to know and appreciate ttlie fine qualities that exist in those around you. You know that no one race, creed or color has a monopoly on those human characteristics which lead to a successful, cooperative and friendly world. lt is m hope that you may continue to remember your friends of your high school days, and -that y may acquire many new and trusted friendships in the years t ahead. WN George M. O'Brien wigs lt The theme of our yearbook for 1951-Friendship-is an ab- straction, but how real friends and friendships are! l have often urged students to count friendships among their most highly valued possessions. Your schooldays are a series of ups and downs, suc- cesses and failures, hopes and disappointments, wins and losses. You value your achievements, as you should but from day to day you are living in close touch with your fellow students and your teach- ers, you are with your own age group more than you will ever be again, and you find that your friends contribute your most satisfying moments. ln the years to come, after many of your experiences have become dim in your memory, you will treasure the friendships that meant so much to you. The wise student, throughout his years in school, in the class room, in extra-curricular activities, will cultivate the good will and the respect-and thus the friendship-of his teachers and fellow stu- dents just as later on he will cultivate his neighbors, his associates in work, and others with whom he may have vital contacts in church or civic activities. l hope that you will leave Washington l-ligh with your share of friendships, and that these experiences will lead to others in later lite that you will prize as highly. l..
