In athletics, the juniors have proved themselves outstanding. Ish Gauthier, 'Butch' Bauknecht, 'Chummie' Strohm, Lothar Krueger, Harvey Stangel, Dorell St. Pierre, Paul Pesheck, Billy Ahearn, 'Spike' Ander- berg, 'Rabbit' Hasheck are outstanding for their work in both basket- ball and football. As for swimming, Robert Suhr has been elected captain of next year's team. Richard Waskow, Charles Seltz, Gerald Daetz, make up the remain- der of Juniors on the team. And finally the Junior Class play, under the direction of Robert D. Winn, was a sample of the extraordinary ability of this group of go- getters. In both basketball and football they placed regularly. Harry Gross, Pud Perry, Evan Kriesa, 'Eddie' LeC1a1r, Pat Day, Paul Shedivy, Felix Antonio, Gordon Prucha, and Wm. John Hernday, Lyle Dallman, George Liebech, Franklin Wood, Otto Blaha, Francis Bou- da, M1ke Hanson, and Alvin Jindra are team menbers who have helped their class reach the top rung of the ladder. This year Two Rivers produced a band worthy of the name. It has fulfilled the expectations of those, who, last year set such a high ideal for the Washington High school Band. The band, organized by Mr. Arvold in l92l,1s now under the direction of Mr. Jones, who came here in 1926. It has really gained many high honors under his instruction. Band is a full credit subject and rehearses every day during the seventh period. Sectional practices are given once a week to members during their free periods. It is offered to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The band consists of sixty-seven members. As a means of encouraging student participation and to enable students to compare their work with that of other groups, the music organizations compete in usually very successful in winning numerous high cert this year was given on March 51. The aim of the band is entirely educat1onal.It is taught with the express purpose of giving to the students a greater understanding and appreciation of the best in music literature. It is the belief and the hope that the standard of music appreciation in America will be much higher as a result of the present teaching of instrumental and vocal music in our schools. -40- CHORUS Peterson, Stangel, Specht, Hurley, Koch, Devine, Shedivy, Streubel, Andrews, Keip,'Mil1er, Rollins. Mixed Chorus Under the able G1T8Ct1OD of Mr. Jones, the Mixed Uhorus has completed another very successful year. The Chorus was greatly enlarged this year to a membership of sixty-nine. The aim of this organization is to give greater experience to those talented students and to furnish enjoyment for the many participants. Many different types of music were practiced, such as: negro spirituals, hymns, folk songs, and lullabies. Every day during the third period the director, Mr. Jones, calls a practice for the Mixed Chorus. Chorus is a regular subject now with one credit for the year. The boys' and girls' glee clubs also.have sepa- rate hours for rehearsals. Miss Larsen has charge of the girls' glee club, M . Jones, the boys'. Of special interest this year to the chorus was their concert presented on February 2. Many hours of work and practice were devoted to the preparation of this concert. It was held to obtain funds for gowns for the Uhorus. The committee for the gowns consisted of Helen Jane Wagner, Russel Goedjen, Hazel Zermuehlen, John Schmidt, Alice Martens, nenneth Sievert, Katherine Andrews, and Joe Ziarnik. During the Christmas season the chorus again contributed to the holiday spirit. The group sang at Kewaunee on march 3. Our songsters also went to the tournament at DePere. The Chorus reached its climax of the year with the songs they presented at the commencement exercises. - 41 - I.-............-. D Y mmm, Zfvufjlr! 1g1pjiHmw if I E., wr- 4 .- 2 . The decision debates are divided into two parts, the Northeastern Conference and the state. The B teams belong to the Northeastern and the A teams to the Wisconsin High School Forensic Association which is com- posed of two hundred members. The A teams won the state championship this year. Two Rivers placed first in the district, sectional, and final or state tourna- ments from which other schools were eliminated. This year the tournaments were held at Appleton, Stevens Point, and Madison respectively. Two Rivers competed in ten debates in the course of these tournaments and won all of them. In the state or final tournament three schools were represented, Washington High of Milwaukee from the southern section, Eau Clair High School from the northern section, and Two Rivers Washington High School representing the central section. While at Madison our winning teams had the honor of debating in the Senate Chamber and Hearing Room in the state Capitol. This debate was broadcasted over station WIBA Madison. Each member of the affirmative and negative teams received a gold medal. The teams were presented with a silver loving cup and banner. Our B teams were the only teams in the Northeastern Conference limited to sophomores. They competed ln practice debates held at Milwaukee, Sheboygan, and Lawrence College. The Northeastern Conference tournament was held in Two Rivers in November. Twelve schools competed. Each school had six debates. Two Rivers placed third, winning four out of its six debates. The victory of our A teams should be an inspiring incentive to future debaters and participants in other activities of the school, for never before has the school received such high honors through the united efforts of a few. -44- DRAMATIC CLUB, PEP CLUB Row 1. The G.A.A. has chosen for the first time in its history an all around senior athlete, Ruth Rollins. Ruth has been chosen because she is outstanding in sports, and possesses the needed qualities, especially good sportsmanship. Another attraction this year is the addition of the varsity teams,wh1ch con- sist of the best players in each sport. All classes are represented among the winners. Because of the demand for it, fencing has been added to the G.A.A.'s list of sports 0 We hope to get equipment so that fencing can be continued next year. The G.A.A. banquet proved to be a definite success. Emblems were awarded to those who earn 100 points, pins for 750 points, and T's for 1200 points. lisa Karen Ostman, the physical education instructor and G.A.A. advisor, is responsible for the past successful and eventful year held by the G.A.A.
