The 1983 varsity golf team was one of the most competitive in recent years. A highlight was the early season when the squad won its first five matches, including wins over NIC foes LaSalle, Mishawaka, and Elkhart Memorial. Later in the year the golfers dropped close, exciting matches to perennial NIC powers Penn and Elkhart Central. Captain Mark Rafalski and fellow seniors Steve LeeVan, Jim Nowicki, and Kevin Rybicki provided excellent leadership. Underclassmen Scott Tafelski and Bob Rzepnicki were also integral players on the varsity. At the end of the season, Steve LeeVan became MVP, Jim Nowicki earned the Sportsmanship Award, and Mark Rafalski won the coveted Kiwanis Award. Junior Scott Tafelski won the Putting Award and will be a. key to future Panter successes in golf.
