Xi ;• ■■ ' ■ ■ ' 7 ui ....::iit,:ts mfmm!tfjj%i ■ w Varsity Baseball We could ' ve — We should ' ve — We might ' ve — We would ' ve — We will never know how good we were, except deep inside we know. We know we worked and played at a level few men will ever reach or even try. After being 0-2 in the conference, we won 15 of our next 16 games to win the N.I.C. After dropping a double header to St. Joe and losing center fielder Greg Fozo for the season (we were 6-4 at that time) we won 20 of our next 21 games. Fozo ' s replacement Mike Katz was injured in the Riley game near the end of the season. Then came our 3rd major setback, the loss of our All- Conference and All-State shortstop Ken Soos to a blood clot. Soos ' s injury came on the day he was to pitch in the Sectional. We lost that game 2-0 to Clay. It was our 1st shutout in 32 games. We ended up 26-6, (confel-ence 15-3) winning the NIC crown and the Colonial Classic. Ken Soos (shortstop) and Jeff Turak (outfield) were 1st All- Conference and 1st team All-state sectional. Dan Sacchini (out-field) was 2nd team Ail-Conference. The team was ranked 1 in the coaches poll when we returned from our spring trip. We stayed in the top 20 poll all season (the lowest was 12th). We finished ranked 7th in the state. The team set 10 school records, including longest winning streak 13 games. Most wins in school history — 26. Most stolen bases — 104. Most home runs — 19. We also had 8 individual school records. Most home runs Jeff Turak — 6. Most runs scored Ken Soos — 42. Most runs batted in Jeff Turak — 44. Most stolen bases Jeff Turak — 30 36. Most bases on balls Jeff Turak - 26. Most wins pitching Ken Soos 9-1-1. Most pitching saves Todd Lane — . Most strikeouts pitching Dan Sacchini — 70. Ken Soos, Jeff Turak and Dan Sacchini were the teams Tri-Captains. These 3 along with Greg Fozo, Dave Jozwiak, Todd Lane and Scott Searfoss were instramental to our team attaining the success it did. Our top returning underclassmen are Mike Young, Jr. Balderas. Tom Kolacz and freshman Brian Piotrowitz. By R. Tomaszewski ,q

B-Team And Freshman Baseball The 1983 B-team and F reshman baseball teams were an inspiration to all sports fans by both having winning seasons. The B-team, coached by Jim Kominkiewicz, posted a 13-8 season as they prepared many young men to play varsity baseball in 1984. The Freshman baseball team dove into a difficult season and surfaced with a 7-1 record. We were proud of our Panther hitters, who coached by Glenn Duddleson, were Freshman League Champions.
