The nostalgia of this event was subordinate only to the excitement of meeting an- other foe in the game of basket- ball. There were eight girls sharing the honor of being on the Cen- tral court but, only one would ascend to the throne of the queen. The members of the court were selected by a vote of the Senior class. Miss Alice Jo Star, escorted by Rick Orban, was chosen queen of WHS basketball for '69-'7O. V4

RILEY The Riley Round-Up ended up in what would more appropriately have been named a Washington Wrap-up. The Big Green Machine rolled over their opponents with a score of 35-0. During the halftime ceremonies, the courts from the two schools were pre- sented to the crowd. It was at this time that the queen was announced. Miss Sandy Vanslager was our queen for the '69-'70 year. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Juniors and Seniors who have outstanding qualities of leadership, character, scholar- ship, and service are eligible for membership in the National Honor Society, spon- sored by Miss Murphy. Students are first selected on the basis of their academic record and are then evaluated by the teachers on their other qualities. New members are now inducted at a dinner held for them and their parents instead of the former proce- dure of being called from the audience at an assembly held in the auditorium. Upon induction, the new members receive the highest academic honor that they can attain: becoming a member of a national society that honors those who serve their community. f, N.H.S.
